The Tesla Energy Products team is bringing battery and solar technology to the grid to facilitate a renewable energy ecosystem and redefine the way the world will use energy in the future. As part of the Thermal Architecture team, you are the design lead that defines and designs the thermal systems that make Tesla Energy products like Megapack, Supercharger and Powerwall world class. This role involves collaboration with designers, engineering, manufacturing, firmware and service and requires the ability to apply engineering fundamentals to model and design thermal systems that are at the core of Teslas success. What Youll Do

  • Support programs through the entire life cycle including spec development, modeling, prototype builds, test, and production
  • Develop CFD and thermal models to simulate system performance of HVAC components to meet system requirements while optimizing for efficiency and cost
  • Perform high level system trade offs between different thermal design solutions to optimize for battery life and system cost
  • Develop and execute component and subsystem design verification plans and test methods to validate product adherence to requirements

What Youll Bring

  • Fluency in the use of analytical simulation tools for thermal analysis, including Matlab and CFD software
  • Experience modeling and testing thermal components, examples include fans, pumps, compressors, fluid connections, heat sinks, heat exchangers
  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent experience
  • Strong fundamentals in heat transfer, thermodynamics and fluid mechanics
  • Demonstrable motivation and ability to solve novel, difficult thermal design problems
  • CFD Modeling experience
  • Passion for renewable energy

Expected Compensation

$84,000 – $324,000/annual salary + cash and stock awards + benefits

Pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements dependent on the position offered. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment.
