About magniX

Based in Washington state, magniX is a leader in electric propulsion for aerospace & defense, working to revolutionize how the world connects by transforming the way aircraft are powered. magniX has been at the leading edge of electric propulsion innovation for quite some time, proving our technology in flight. We are now ready to take our technology and products to market. Be part of a passionate team that is ushering in the 3rd era of aviation.

About the role

This Electrical Engineer at magniX will be responsible for the design and delivery of the flight-qualified electrical components and sub-systems, and their integration into the Energy Storage System (ESS). The electrical engineer will evaluate requirements and use cases and create and iterate electrical design options. This electrical engineer will also mature these electrical designs and release the required design substantiation and documentation. The engineer will also write technical reports and test requests, support test execution, analyze test results, and collaborate with other engineers in the team.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Develop innovative electrical designs for the ESS (battery pack, power distribution system, cabling, and interfaces with ground equipment), focusing on maximized energy density, optimized performance, manufacturability, and ability to meet certification requirements. This area of responsibility is across the battery modules, power distribution modules, battery chargers, ground support equipment, and cables interconnecting the system components.
  • Analyze the electrical aspects of the ESS at the system and component level such as electrical load analysis, cascading fuse behavior, electrical component heating during operation, failure hazard and fault tree analysis, etc.
  • Lead the evaluation and selection of the high voltage and low voltage electrical components for the Battery Modules and other ESS components such as fuses, contactors, wiring, connectors, busbars, etc.
  • Collaborate with the mechanical design engineers in incorporating the electrical components into their mechanical enclosures and systems for the battery modules, power distribution systems, chargers, etc.
  • Collaborate with the electronic hardware team to incorporate the PCB designs into the electrical system and architecture of the components.
  • Collaborate with the system modeling engineers to provide input into their models on the behavior and characteristics of the electrical components and how to accurately incorporate them into the models
  • Coordinate complete design packages detailed drawings, analysis reports, BOMs, and assembly instructions for the components and integrated systems
  • Conduct trade studies on design and manufacturing options, identify early methods for risk reduction and technology development.
  • Conduct reviews of designs, manufacturing plans, and test procedures to ensure compliance with design and performance requirements.
  • Work with manufacturing, quality, and external suppliers for technical build support, as well as evaluating and dispositioning product non-conformances
  • Support the test team to plan, execute, and assess results of ESS development and verification testing.
  • Support integration of the ESS into flying test beds and support flight test activities.
