As a Chemical Engineer on the Chamber and Power Plant team, you will be responsible for pushing the boundaries of materials science and engineering to solve complex challenges in molten salt systems for fusion energy. We are seeking a talented Chemical Engineer with expertise in molten salt environments to join our dynamic team. As a key member of our Fusion Pilot Plant design effort, you will play a crucial role in advancing our understanding of salt purification requirements, chemistry control, corrosion mechanisms and developing innovative solutions to enhance the performance and longevity of our fusion chamber and molten salt systems. Responsibilities

  • Conduct research to understand corrosion mechanisms in molten salt systems and develop strategies for salt chemistry control in the fusion chamber environment.
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to optimize materials selection and develop novel approaches to mitigate corrosion.
  • Evaluate chamber gas processes impacting salt chemistry and provide technical insights to guide chamber gas exhaust processing systems.
  • Design and implement experiments to evaluate the efficiency of salt purification, chemistry control and corrosion mitigation approaches.
  • Stay abreast of the latest developments in molten salt chemistry and corrosion engineering to identify new opportunities for innovation.

Qualifications

  • Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, or a related field.
  • Proven experience in design and analysis of molten salt systems.
  • Strong background in materials characterization techniques and corrosion testing methodologies.
  • Proficiency in data analysis and interpretation, with experience using relevant software tools.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to collaborate effectively in a multidisciplinary team environment.
  • Demonstrated creativity and problem-solving ability in developing innovative solutions to complex challenges.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee of granted asylum.

Desired

  • Experience in fluoride salts, FLiBe in particular.
  • Experience in radiochemistry.
  • Experience with computational modeling of corrosion processes.
  • Experience in setting up new laboratory facilities.
  • Experience with molten salt diagnostic systems.
  • Familiarity with relevant industry standards and regulations for materials performance in corrosive environments.
  • Track record of publications or patents in the field of corrosion engineering or materials science.
Candidates may be considered for other positions at Xcimer Energy, and our actual base salary will be determined on an individual basis and may vary based on job-related knowledge and skills, education, and experience. The range is published in accordance with Colorado Equal Pay for Equal Work Act and California Equal Pay Act.
