About This Position

The Interconnection Manager will lead and execute the interconnection process for renewable energy projects. This role involves building and maintaining key relationships with ISOs, RTOs, and utilities. The ideal candidate will have prior experience in the energy industry, specifically in interconnection work, power system studies, and regulatory strategy. Key responsibilities include navigating the interconnection process, preparing technical data, fostering internal and external relationships, advocating for the company with ISOs and RTOs, and developing interconnection strategies for short, mid, and long-term projects.

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Lead the company’s generator interconnection process and strategy in target markets (ERCOT and CAISO)
  • Act as the company’s primary interface with ISOs, RTOs, and utilities on all interconnection initiatives in target markets, building key relationships to ensure project success
  • Attend and monitor transmission expansion planning meetings, providing regular updates to internal teams on reforms and new projects relevant to the company’s portfolio
  • Support the Origination, Development, Engineering, Construction, and Project Finance teams in strategic business development, evaluating potential interconnection options, and executing projects
  • Conduct or collaborate with technical teams on power flow studies, including preparing interconnection requests and generator equivalent models necessary for the interconnection study process
  • Oversee the submission of interconnection requests and manage the interconnection process from early-stage development to COD for utility-scale renewable energy projects
  • Develop systems to track and communicate project status and options internally for various phases of the interconnection process
  • Support LMP analysis with generation and transmission assumptions and review results

Qualifications and Skills

  • Effective communication skills in both commercial and technical contexts
  • Proficiency in assembling interconnection applications
  • Highly organized with effective project management skills
  • Basic understanding and working knowledge of LMPs
  • Familiarity with tools such as PSLF, PSSE, PSCAD etc

Minimum Experience 

  • 5-8 years of experience with an IPP, developer, ISO/RTO, utility, or consulting firm
  • Experience with transmission and distribution interconnection tariffs, focusing on interconnection procedures, studies, and planning processes in ERCOT and CAISO

Academic and Professional Background

  • BS degree in Engineering or equivalent industry experience. A master’s degree is a plus

Physical and Sensory Requirements

  • Mostly sedentary work; using standard office equipment including: a computer, keyboard, and telephone. 
  • Position requires some travel for company-wide meetups: :5 weeks total through a calendar year, plus additional travel required for site visits. *Full COVID-19 vaccination required to be eligible for travel

  • Salary: $135,000- $145,000 USD base salary with 25% annual target bonus
