Summary:
The Director of Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) will be responsible for developing, implementing, and overseeing comprehensive environmental, health, and safety programs to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and promote a safe working environment for all employees. This role will collaborate with various departments to identify and mitigate potential hazards, implement best practices, and drive a culture of safety throughout the organization and with the contract manufacturers and suppliers the company works with.
Job Details:
- Develop and implement company-wide environmental health and safety policies, procedures, and programs in accordance with local, state, and federal regulations
- Conduct regular risk assessments and audits to identify potential hazards in the workplace and develop strategies to mitigate risks
- Provide leadership and guidance to EHS staff and collaborate with cross-functional teams to promote safety awareness and compliance
- Establish and maintain relationships with regulatory agencies, ensuring compliance with permits, licenses, and reporting requirements
- Oversee development and delivery of comprehensive EHS training programs for employees and managers to increase awareness and promote a culture of safety
- Monitor and analyze EHS performance metrics and implement continuous improvement initiatives to enhance safety performance
- Oversee and assist with investigation of incidents, accidents, and near misses, identifying root causes and implementing corrective and preventive actions to prevent recurrence
- Manage emergency response and crisis management procedures, including coordination with relevant stakeholders and authorities
- Stay informed about emerging EHS regulations, trends, and best practices, and recommend appropriate actions to ensure compliance and improve EHS performance
- Prepare and present regular reports to senior management on EHS performance, initiatives, and areas for improvement
- Performs other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in environmental health and safety, occupational health and safety, engineering, or a related field, or equivalent relevant experience
- Professional certification in environmental, health, and safety (e.g., Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH), Certified Environmental Professional (CEP)) is highly desirable
- 7+ years of experience in environmental health and safety leadership roles, manufacturing environment experience required
- In-depth knowledge of local, state, and federal EHS regulations, including OSHA, EPA, and other relevant agencies
- Strong leadership and interpersonal skills with the ability to influence and engage stakeholders at all levels of the organization
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to identify trends, analyze data, and develop effective solutions
- Proven track record of developing and implementing successful EHS programs and initiatives
- Effective communication skills, including the ability to deliver presentations and trainings to diverse audiences
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and prioritize tasks in a fast-paced environment
- Ability to work cross functionally, including explaining designs and concepts to all levels of employees and management
- Demonstrated ability to communicate professionally verbally and in writing
- Excellent time management skills, including multi-tasking, ability to prioritize, meet deadlines, follow up and attention to details
- Proficient in MS Office applications (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
- Willingness and ability to travel to support contract manufacturers, suppliers, etc., during start-ups, changes, customer visits, etc.
- Able to work flexible hours to support international teams, as needed
