Job Description

Job Title: Senior Director of Engineering

Company Overview: My client is a developer collaborating with national commercial and industrial partners to deliver comprehensive energy transition solutions that meet their sustainability needs. They originate, design, develop, finance, own, and operate renewable energy assets both independently and alongside energy efficiency technologies to assist our partners in achieving their net-zero carbon objectives. These assets encompass solar PV generation, battery storage, fuel cells, building controls, and various other cleantech offerings, providing on-site or local generation solutions as well as load control and curtailment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Report directly to the Chief Technology Officer.
  • Act as a player-coach, actively participating in the design and engineering of renewable energy, energy efficiency, and cleantech projects while supervising third-party consulting engineers.
  • Function as the “Owner’s Engineer,” overseeing contracted engineering firms.
  • Work with the CTO to establish and maintain all technical specifications for design and commissioning.
  • Set standards for design, engineering equipment, and construction.
  • Partner with development and finance teams to evaluate the feasibility and construction complexity of potential projects.
  • Collaborate with the contract management team to develop Statements of Work (SOWs) for EPC contractors and provide engineering oversight during construction.
  • Travel approximately 20-25% of the time, with travel requirements varying.

Requirements:

  • Over a decade of experience in energy system design, with a minimum of 7 years focused on designing C&I rooftop solar systems and small (1-10MW) ground-mount systems.
  • Innovative and entrepreneurial mindset for solving energy and carbon reduction challenges.
  • Preferred experience with energy efficiency, combined heat and power (CHP), fuel cells, or other carbon reduction technologies.
  • Proven ability to manage a large project portfolio, prioritize tasks effectively, manage competing expectations, and meet deadlines.
  • Skilled in using PV design tools such as Helioscope, PVSyst, and AutoCAD.
  • Proficient with Procore, project management software, energy modeling tools, and Microsoft Office applications.
  • Strong analytical, verbal, and written communication abilities.
  • Preferred: Licensed Professional Engineer in electrical, mechanical, or civil engineering.
  • Required: Bachelor’s degree in engineering; Master’s degree preferred.
