ABOUT THE JOB:
The Director of Power Marketing and Origination will manage and report on the portfolio company’s positions in electricity markets. The successful candidate should possess a deep understanding of electricity markets and regulations, along with the ability to build and maintain relationships with PPA off-takers. Strong analytical skills and proficiency in working with data are essential. This role also serves as a Subject Matter Expert for Investments (Structured Finance), Development, and other teams as needed.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Optimize asset revenue through securing PPAs and managing trading strategies for uncontracted portions.
- Oversee contracting and energy bidding strategies to meet or exceed revenue goals; lead Power Purchase Agreement negotiations.
- Evaluate and adjust CAISO day-ahead, real-time, and ancillary market bidding strategies to maximize merchant revenues and manage risks.
- Negotiate and close long-term structured power purchase agreements and other revenue contracts.
- Maintain relationships with power off-takers, identify RFP opportunities, and manage RFP responses for new energy project development in the U.S.
- Collaborate with Investments team to integrate offtake structures into financial models.
- Own power price forecasts and stay updated on utility IRPs, state RPS mandates, and other regulatory trends; present findings to stakeholders.
- Coordinate with Development, Investments, and other departments to understand power prices and commercialize projects.
- Analyze financial impacts of energy production with Asset Operations and Performance Engineering.
- Communicate effectively with internal and external parties; report on operational activities to relevant stakeholders.
- Support Asset Operations to ensure compliance with project agreements; recommend risk approaches and execute trades as per risk policies.
- Work with investment, accounting, and legal teams to prepare and submit financial deliverables; develop and manage 12×24 production schedules.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelor’s Degree.
- 5+ years’ experience in origination, power marketing, renewable energy consulting, or related field.
- Strong preference for CAISO experience.
- Experience with merchant energy projects and Solar + Storage production and dispatch strategy.
- Knowledge of Day Ahead scheduling required.
