Purpose:

Vesper Energy is looking for a skilled and motivated individual to join the Vesper Energy 

team as Manager, Development East. This individual will be responsible for the 

development of solar and solar + energy storage projects from greenfield site 

identification and land acquisition through project management, local and/or state 

permitting, and community engagement across a pipeline of projects targeting 

wholesale power markets in the US. Key skills required for this role include good 

networking/ interpersonal skills, critical thinking, problem-solving, and ability to be a self-

starter. The ideal candidate will have 2-5 years of experience in the energy industry and be able 

to collaborate effectively with internal teams and external consultants to lead their 

assigned projects to development completion.

Desired Educational Level:

• Bachelor’s degree or above 

Basic Qualifications:

• Knowledge of the full cycle of utility-scale renewable power generation

development and marketing.

• Knowledge of interconnection, permitting, real estate, state/federal regulation, 

utility procurement goals, politics, law, and other issues that impact development 

of renewable energy projects in the eastern energy markets.

• Solid understanding of the interconnection process (study process, contracting, 

utility requirements, financial obligations, and scope execution by utilities) to both 

site projects optimally and to advance them through COD.

• Solid understanding of economic drivers within our business.

• Concisely frame issues by providing context, analysis, recommendations, and

risk/benefit tradeoffs, both in written and verbal format, to project teams and to 

senior management.

• Create control and influence over the costs, terms, and schedules of key project

milestones that are heavily dependent on external counterparties.

• Strong understanding of the relationships within a project schedule in order to

prioritize teams’ resource allocation.

• Highly resourceful and able to design processes for the advancement of project

milestones and navigate through key risks.

• Highly proficient in Microsoft Office programs, as well as Google Earth.

• Independent self-starter who can meet deadlines and deliver quality products

with minimal oversight.

• Substantial ability to recognize opportunities and identify and evaluate risks in a

development context as well as effectively communicate the foregoing.

• Demonstrated ability to procure and evaluate project tax analyses and property

value studies.

• Ability to manage a large workload, often providing support to processes

managed by colleagues, while prioritizing tasks and effectively juggling 

competing deadlines.

• Detail-oriented with a strong sense of personal responsibility and ownership of work

product.

• Excellent personal organizational and pattern recognition skills.

Responsibilities:

• Lead development of utility-scale solar and solar + energy storage power

generation facilities within MISO, PJM, or other markets the company may pursue 

in the future.

• Greenfield new project opportunities in an identified region through market

analysis, site identification, and due diligence.

• Complete project permitting and environmental compliance throughout project

development.

• Lead cross-functional teams with excellent communication and project

management skills to minimize project risks.

• Work with the finance team to develop financial models for each project while 

understanding and evaluating key inputs and assumptions. 

• Negotiate tax abatements, community benefit agreements, land use 

agreements, mitigation settlements, and various other agreements. 

• Manage project budgets, objectives, schedules, and deliverables for assigned 

development projects. 

• Regular travel to site locations to meet with landowners, evaluate sites, and 

advance development, up to 30%. 

• Positively and professionally represent projects to external stakeholders. 

• Engage community members and all relevant stakeholders to garner project 

support and navigate assigned projects through the entitlement process. 

• Managing contractors, vendors, and consultants to maintain project timeline, 

quality, and budget.
