Sourcechange has partnered with a pioneering independent power producer (IPP) dedicated to sustainability and carbon neutrality. Committed to advancing renewable energy solutions, our client seeks an experienced VP of Energy Market Analytics to bolster their strategy in renewable assets across the U.S., focusing on optimized risk management and trading strategies in a rapidly evolving market. This person will also be responsible for supporting with Origination activities with Big-Tech firms, utilities, and various other corporate offtakers.

Title: VP of Energy Market Analytics

Reports To: Chief Commercial Officer

Location: Remote (Travel as required)

Description: The VP of Energy Market Analytics will lead the development and implementation of sophisticated trading and risk management strategies across the company’s renewable asset portfolio. This role requires a deep understanding of energy markets, trading dynamics, and risk analytics to optimize financial performance and ensure compliance with regulatory frameworks. This position will be a strategic role, collaborating with the the analysts and developers in the group to Originate opportunities and optimize energy trading opportunities.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and manage comprehensive risk models, particularly gross margin at risk models for renewable energy projects with market exposure, ranging from prompt month up to five years.
  • Establish and oversee portfolio risk limits, maintaining metrics that account for energy, congestion, and REC price correlations.
  • Direct quantitative analysis to guide trading and hedging strategies, ensuring alignment with the company’s energy risk management policies.
  • Collaborate with the Market Fundamentals and Transmission Team to integrate long-term market analyses into short-term trading strategies.
  • Engage in high-level risk committee discussions, presenting key risk issues and ensuring adherence to established risk management frameworks.
  • Lead the development of market dashboards and management reports to track and communicate portfolio performance and risks.

Key Qualifications:

  • Advanced degree (Masters or Ph.D.) in Engineering, Mathematics, Economics, or a related quantitative field.
  • 10+ years of experience in quantitative roles within the energy sector, including significant exposure to U.S. electricity markets and ISO environments.
  • Expertise in risk management practices, including experience with Energy Trading Risk Management (ETRM) systems.
  • Proficiency in statistical programming languages such as Python or R, and strong SQL skills for complex data analysis.
  • Superior communication skills, capable of distilling complex issues for a variety of stakeholders.
  • Strong leadership and project management skills, with the ability to work effectively in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.
