The HV Electrical Engineer brings intermediate-level expertise, excelling in varied assignments that require analytical techniques to solve diverse problems. As a key member of the Electrical Engineering team, you will contribute to the operation and maintenance (O&M) of electrical substations, collection systems, transmission lines, and major components across our global fleet of renewable energy assets.
Responsibilities:
- Lead electrical engineering projects for O&M of renewable energy facilities, defining requirements, reviewing engineering drawings, and managing projects.
- Ensure high equipment availability through efficient preventative maintenance of collection systems, substations, and transmission facilities (12kV to 500kV).
- Provide technical support and guidance to field personnel on high-voltage equipment (up to 500kV).
- Perform power system studies, arc flash analysis, relay settings, and coordination.
- Analyze data to identify trends and system events for reporting and process improvement.
- Conduct Root Cause Analysis to determine failure modes accurately.
- Support resolution of electrical equipment issues at renewable energy facilities.
- Develop processes and procedures for safe and efficient operation and maintenance of company’s renewable generating facilities.
- Act as the electrical technical interface for procurement and factory testing of major electrical equipment.
- Offer engineering consulting support to Construction and Power Marketing departments.
- Maintain accurate documentation and records.
- Build relationships with third-party service providers.
- Support training and mentoring of electrical field technicians and operations staff.
- Plan and direct switching operations for wind farms.
- Ensure compliance with regulatory reliability standards (e.g., NERC).
- Provide technical support on codes and standards (NEC, NESC, NFPA 70E, ANSI, UL, IEC).
- Serve as Subject Matter Expert (SME) for applicable NERC Reliability Standards.
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering (ABET accredited); Master’s degree will be considered as years’ experience.
- Professional Engineering (P.E.) License preferred.
- Minimum 5 years of experience in utility or power plant operations and maintenance.
- Strong communication skills and ability to train on complex operations.
- Commitment to safety with demonstrated leadership.
- Knowledge of electrical and mechanical theory.
- Proficiency in computer applications (Microsoft Office suite).
- Experience with protective relay applications and software (e.g., SEL, GE Multilin Enervista UR).
- Working knowledge of NERC Reliability Standards.
- Ability to climb vertical ladders up to 300 feet.
- Up to 25% travel required, including international locations.
- Valid driver’s license and clean driving record.
