Job Description


Idaho National Laboratory is hiring a Investigator to work on our Office of Internal Investigations team. Our team works a 9×80 schedule located out of our Idaho Falls facility with every other Friday off. You will be reporting to the Director of Security Programs and Services.

Responsibilities Include

  • Conduct investigations including allegations of harassment, retaliation, discrimination, intimidation, employee conduct, conflicts of interest, security breach, safety, policy violations, and fraud. Develop investigation plans and reports, complete, and document investigation activities, and brief management and other parties on results.
  • Investigate and address concerns raised by management, employees, customers, and stakeholders as assigned.
  • Conduct interviews, gather evidence and supporting data, and prepare and disseminate final reports.
  • Interpret contract and regulatory requirements and recommend policy and practices. Ensure investigation programs and procedures comply with regulatory and contractual requirements.
  • Participate in advisory group meetings to determine appropriate action based on results of investigations.
  • Develop and implement criteria for self-assessments, conduct self-assessments, measure results, and take corrective action for continued improvement. Ensure an effective risk-based approach is in use to protect INL assets and activities.
  • Develop and maintain investigative data analytic models. Assist with data analytics and maintenance of performance statistics. Communicate unfavorable trends to management and identify potential risks.
  • Manage caseload and completing investigations in a timely manner. Reports are of complete and of high quality.
  • Counsel/coach employees and/or managers regarding issues.
  • Collaborate as necessary with internal and external organizations, including Safeguards and Security, Legal, Human Resources, etc.
  • May interface with the Office of Inspector General, DOE-ID, the FBI, local, state, and county law enforcement agencies for investigative issues and concerns.
  • Maintain confidentiality of sensitive information.
  • May act as a spokesperson and consultant for investigative-related matters to relevant Board committees and persons, including senior INL and DOE management.

Minimum Requirements

  • Level 4: Bachelor’s degree and 9+ years of experience.
  • Level 5: Bachelor’s degree and 14+ years of experience.
  • Relevant experience commensurate with level including conducting investigative activities (for example, military, law enforcement, or corporate investigations).
  • Ability to analyze multiple sources of data to identify patterns, trends and indicators of possible threats
  • Ability to use and manipulate data collection and analysis tools
  • Able to apply critical thinking, logic and reasoning to evaluate information
  • Familiarity with risk management principles
  • Strong interpersonal skills to be to work in team environment and brief decision makers
  • Depending on work location, requires appointment and credentialing by DOE-ID.
  • This position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Energy “Q” clearance, which requires US Citizenship.

Job Information

  • The pay range for this position is: Level 4 ($75,804 – 155,496) / Level 5 ($91,008 – 186,588). At Idaho National Laboratory compensation decisions are determined using factors such as education, relevant experience, and other credentials.

  • TDP: This is a testing designated position; you will be required to submit to a pre-employment drug screen and periodic drug testing throughout the term of your employment.
  • Multi-Level: This is a multi-level posting and you will be placed at the appropriate level dependent on depth and breadth of proven experience and skills.
