Hays is supporting a leading EPC, looking to add Senior & Lead Engineering talent to their Renewables & Power divisions.
Role Overview: As a Senior/Lead Substation Design Engineer, you will play a pivotal role in the design, development, and execution of high-voltage electrical substations. Your expertise will be critical in ensuring the successful integration of renewable energy sources (such as solar, wind, and battery storage) into our grid infrastructure.
Responsibilities:
- Lead the design and engineering efforts for substations, including greenfield and brownfield projects.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams (including civil, electrical, and control engineers) to develop comprehensive substation designs.
- Create detailed project specifications, design drawings, and documentation.
- Ensure compliance with industry standards, regulations, and safety protocols.
- Evaluate technical feasibility, cost-effectiveness, and constructability of design packages.
- Develop single-line diagrams, layout drawings, raceway systems, grounding systems, and station service.
- Mentor junior engineers and provide technical guidance.
- Interface with clients, subcontractors, and equipment factories.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related field (Master’s preferred).
- Professional Engineer (PE) license or actively working towards it.
- Minimum 7-10 years of experience in substation design, ideally with renewable energy integration.
- Proficiency in protection and control design (protective relays) and/or physical design.
- Strong knowledge of industry standards (IEEE, NESC, etc.).
- Excellent communication and leadership skills.
