For our Lowell based facilities we are seeking a dynamic and experienced Engineering Leader to join our team, specializing in Lithium-ion battery technology. The successful candidate will lead a team of engineers in the design, development, validation, and optimization of low voltage Lithium-ion batteries and battery systems for various applications. This role requires a strong technical background in product development, lithium battery technology, leadership skills, and the ability to drive innovation and excellence in a fast-paced environment.

Duties And Responsibilities

  • Lead a team of engineers in the design, development, validation and optimization of energy storage systems, built with, but not limited to lithium-ion, solid-state, and emerging battery technologies.
  • Provide technical expertise and guidance to the team in areas such as product development, certification, cell chemistry, electrochemical performance, thermal management, and safety.
  • Drive innovation and continuous improvement in battery product design and manufacturing processes to enhance performance, reliability, and cost-effectiveness.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including product management, manufacturing, and quality assurance to ensure alignment and successful execution of battery projects.
  • Manage project timelines, resource allocation, and budget to ensure on-time delivery of high-quality battery solutions.
  • Identify and mitigate technical risks and challenges throughout the battery development lifecycle.
  • Stay abreast of industry trends, emerging technologies, and competitive landscape in battery technology, and incorporate findings into strategic planning and decision-making.
  • Foster a culture of collaboration, learning, and professional development within the wider engineering team.
  • Collaborate with engineers from different locations under a “one team” principle.
  • Establish and maintain relationships with external partners, suppliers, and research institutions to enhance the company’s battery technology capabilities.
  • Represent the company in technical discussions with customers to showcase expertise and thought leadership in battery technology.

Skills, Education And Background

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or related field; advanced degree preferred.
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in battery products development, of which a minimum of 5 in leading engineering teams.
  • In-depth knowledge of battery products design, battery chemistry, materials, cell design, BMS design, safety design and manufacturing processes.
  • Strong understanding of battery performance metrics, including energy density, power density, cycle life, and safety.
  • Experience with battery testing and characterization techniques, such as electrochemical impedance spectroscopy, cyclic voltammetry, and accelerated aging tests.
  • Proficiency in engineering software tools for battery modelling, simulation, and analysis.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to motivate and inspire team members.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proven track record of driving innovation, problem-solving, and delivering results.
  • Knowledge of relevant regulatory standards and compliance requirements for battery technology (e.g., UL, IEC, UN).
  • Experience with battery charger technology or power conversion in general is preferred.
  • Entrepreneurial skills will be needed to champion new concepts and drive new ideas
