SENIOR DATA ENGINEER

Summary

The Senior Data Engineer will build, integrate, test, and maintain data pipelines to improve the reliability of Construction data, focusing on simplifying and streamlining processes of data acquisition and reporting related to construction project execution and commercial management.

This position reports to the Sr. Manager, Business Process or another management personnel that the team lead may designate. This position is in Ankeny, IA, and working hours are Monday through Friday, from 8:00am to 5:00pm or 9:00am to 6:00pm local time. Overtime and weekend working hours will be required as needed. This position is expected to travel up to 10%.

Essential Job Function & Responsibilities

  • Construct, integrate, test, and sustain data pipelines to enhance the reliability of HQC construction data.
  • Develop queries for use in Power BI reports, focusing on efficient and automated back-end queries.
  • Automate workflows and integrate within existing project management software.
  • Address data system failures and inefficiencies, providing critical feedback to users and developers to minimize downtime.
  • Modify existing data pipelines to ensure adaptability and scalability to external system upgrades or business process changes.
  • Author standard operating procedures and guidelines to facilitate data user training.
  • Manage the support and ongoing development of application and data integration platforms.
  • Build, develop, and lead a team of data, integration, and analytics professionals supporting the division.
  • Advise on developing and deploying new data technologies and capabilities in support of business strategies and needs.
  • Provide overall leadership in integration governance, quality control, and information auditing, including working with application developers and clients to resolve data conflicts and inappropriate usage.
  • Possess expert knowledge of logical and physical data modeling to ensure consistent and efficient application of technologies.
  • Work closely with development teams in an advisory capacity to understand division requirements that add value to system design and implementation.
  • Attend work regularly and punctually as scheduled, and comply with the Employee Handbook, Code of Conduct, and Company Policies & Procedures
  • Regular attendance, in accordance with the company’s attendance policy and supervisory assignment, is an essential job duty requirement for this position.
  • Perform other duties and special projects as assigned by Management.
  • Travel up to 10% as needed

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required, bachelor’s degree in business, Engineering, IS/IT preferred, and five or more years of experience in business operations managing data preferred.
  • Strong skills in SQL, Python, DAX, Power BI, and Java.
  • Experience with data management, analytics, and deployment of system solutions.
  • Fundamental understanding and experience with P6, HCSS, Procore, and other construction project management applications.
  • Ability to automate workflows and build integrations within existing project management software.
  • Ability to troubleshoot data system failures and inefficiencies and provide critical feedback to users and developers.
  • Ability to simplify and summarize complex topics for non-technical audiences, and translate non-technical stakeholder needs into technical solutions.
  • Strong project management skills, with the ability to manage change and priorities in a dynamic environment.

SALARY RANGE FOR POSITION

The anticipated starting pay range of this position, which is to be located in Ankeny, IA, is $115,000 – $140,000 base salary per year.

The above-listed salary range is required by the California Pay Transparency Act and may differ depending on the location of those candidates hired nationwide. The salary range shared in the job description is for the listed position and only pertains to the candidate if they work in Irvine, CA. Actual compensation is influenced by a wide array of factors including but not limited to internal pay equity, skill set, education, licenses and certifications, geographic location, essential job duties and requirements, and the necessary experience relative to the job’s minimum qualifications. An additional discretionary bonus structure or incentives may be offered as part of the overall compensation package, in addition to the full range of medical, dental, and/or other benefits, dependent on the level and position offered.
