Job Description

Six One Commodities LLC – Power Analyst located in either Houston, TX or Stamford, CT.

Established in 2018, Six One Commodities LLC (“61C”) is an energy-focused merchant trading company that trades wholesale natural gas and electricity in the US and also physical LNG trading in Asia. 

The Power Analyst shall be responsible for development and validation of power flow and quantitative models to estimate power demand, generation, and nodal prices. The analyst shall work directly with the traders to apply engineering techniques to optimize portfolio construction. It will be expected of the analysts to familiarize themselves with the energy markets and apply innovative quantitative techniques and power engineering principles. The analyst shall also work with the risk management team to measure, analyze, and manage the risk in our power trading business. The analyst is expected to be familiar with basic statistical principles and upcoming quantitative techniques to identify and analyze data patterns and use it to forecast future data for multiple time horizons.

Tasks:

   ·        Work with the nodal trading team to develop, manage and extend power flow and quantitative models for nodal power markets.  

·        Develop power flow models for various power markets using power engineering principles.

·        Perform statistical analysis of power market related variables such as nodal market price, generation data, load and renewable forecasts etc.

·        Build statistical models for variables such as generation and load using Time Series and Regression-based techniques.

·        Develop complex algorithms to automate various analytical tasks using python including but not the least such as big data gathering, cleaning, sampling, and pattern identification.

·        Develop algorithms using various financial engineering techniques/ models for improving and optimizing portfolio construction.

·        Develop metrics to measure power market attributes and publish reports to quantify market behavior.

·        Develop and deploy data mining techniques to hunt for signals in semi-structured data sets.

   Skills and Requirements:  

   

·        Master’s in Power Systems & Energy Engineering, Mathematics, Applied Mathematics, Operations Research, Computer Science, Industrial Engineering or Statistics;  

·        At least 3-5 year’s of experience in developing quantitative models and a strong familiarity with statistical principles.

·        Experience developing, maintaining, and supporting analytical libraries and pricing models;

·        Proficiency in power flow software such as PSS/E and/or PowerWorld; 

·        At least 1-2 years of programming experience in Python and SQL databases;

·        Knowledge of principles of statistics and probability in Finance;  

·        Knowledge about optimization techniques and statistical learning methods;  

·        Commercial motivation to understand the Energy Markets;  

·        Entrepreneurial spirit and ability to get things done under pressure. Desire to work in a team-oriented culture.
