Summary:

The Manager of Technical Product Management (TPM) will have broad technical experience and a passion for clean energy. The Manager of TPM will own the Product Owner role and responsibility for translating key items on the Powin Roadmap into detailed requirements for the Technology organization to execute. As part of these responsibilities, the TPM Manager will be expected to connect individual features and development efforts to Powin’s key business initiatives, and to suggest improvements to products to support these high-level goals.

The Manager of TPM will own a growing portfolio of features included in Powin’s Hardware platform and unique StackOS software environment, which supports thousands of megawatt-hours of dispatchable clean energy globally. The role is hands-on, reports directly to the Head of Product Management, and owns refining and advancing Powin’s battery energy storage technology.

Job Details:

  • Lead all aspects of Technical Product Management at Powin; including acting as a team builder, technologist, strategist, product expert, and customer advocate
  • Co-own, with Head of Product, all aspects of identifying product capability gaps for internal and external customers and quantify the value of filling those gaps so they can be appropriately prioritized for development
  • Work with Head of Product Management to translate product capability gaps into a roadmap for product development
  • Lead a team that translates product roadmap, market requirements, use cases, and strategy into product requirements, which the Software Engineering team can develop into prototypes and ultimately products
  • Lead interactions with the Technology group at Powin to ensure development efforts are appropriately prioritized
  • Advocate for customers, particularly their technical needs, and get team buy in on the direction using evidence-based decision making
  • Represent the product team as the technical expert on Powin products
  • Represent the company at conferences and by visiting customers to solicit feedback on company products and services
  • Other job duties as assigned

Qualifications:

  • Background in engineering, computer science, mathematics, or similar technical field, or equivalent relevant experience
  • Graduate degree (MS or PhD) preferred
  • 2+ years of management experience, ideally in technical product management or engineering
  • 7+ years of relevant industry experience and, and a track record of solving tough, technical problems more importantly, a clear vision for the future of the battery energy storage and renewable energy technology
  • Detail-oriented and organized
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and to be an outstanding team player
  • Ability to learn new frameworks, new environments, and new technologies
  • Technical knowledge of the renewable energy industry
  • Ability to work cross functionally, explain designs and concepts to others with different backgrounds/degrees
  • Solid analytical, and problem-solving skills and can work independently and manage the workload of multiple projects and tasks
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office programs
  • Ability to work flexible hours as needed to support international teams
  • SCADA, PPC, EMS, and BMS experience preferred
  • Deep knowledge of power electronics preferred
  • Experience with controls systems, particularly as they relate to power and energy systems, is preferred
  • Proficiency with Python, Java, or other languages preferred
  • Technical knowledge of Li-ion batteries and the grid-scale energy storage industry preferred
  • Deep technical experience in providing evidence-based analysis for product hardware decisions, including lifetime analysis and Total Cost of Ownership, preferred
  • Ability to travel to conferences, trade shows, and other customer meetings, up to 20%
