Position Description
The Project Control Specialist at FlexGen is critical to ensuring the seamless execution and delivery of our projects, aligning closely with the Execution and Project Management teams. Your role encompasses overseeing project timelines, budget adherence, and implementing a systematic approach to project controls. You will enhance project management practices, contribute to financial and operations collaboration, streamline portfolio reporting, and support risk management across FlexGen’s diverse portfolio, which includes integration services, engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) projects.
Major Job Responsibilities
- Business Metrics Analysis: Track and analyze key business metrics to support the achievement of critical targets and goals.
- Financial and Project Performance Communication: Provide leadership with crucial financial and performance data, offering insights and strategic recommendations.
- Operational Oversight: Leadership for operational teams in adopting project scheduling and cost and change control methodologies.
- Control Procedures Development: Spearhead the creation and implementation of control procedures, encompassing governance, reporting, and auditing standards.
- System and Tools Planning: Assist in strategizing long-term plans for essential project management tools, focusing on project, cost, schedule, and document management.
- Invoice Management: Aid Project Managers in the review and verification of invoices from contractors and vendors, ensuring accuracy and adherence to contracts and budgets.
- Change Management: Work with project teams to assess changes in scope, schedule, or budget and their effects on project costs; Manage change order requests and conduct cost estimations for approval
- Earned Value Management Support: Facilitate the evaluation and refinement of EVM systems, analyzing project performance data and reporting on findings to stakeholders
- Cost Tracking: Monitor project expenditures against budgets, identify variances and potential overruns, and update project teams on cost performance
- Cost Forecasting: Develop project and portfolio-level cost forecasts and projections, highlighting risks and opportunities impacting project finances
- Reporting: Generate and distribute comprehensive reports on key cost metrics, variances, and trends to stakeholders, offering recommendations for cost optimization and risk mitigation
- Compliance: Ensure adherence to company policies, procedures, and industry standards in cost control, schedule, and financial management
- Continuous Improvement: Identify opportunities for process improvements, automation, and efficiency gains within the project control’s function, and contribute to the development of best practices and standard procedures
Position Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in science or equivalent relevant experience
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in cost control or project controls, with a preference for backgrounds in manufacturing or construction industries
- Demonstrated analytical and quantitative skills, proficient in financial analysis and cost estimation
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Knowledge of Earned Value Management (EVM) principles and methodologies
- Strong understanding of finance, accounting practices, and terminology
- Familiarity with engineering/construction industry standards and practices
- Comprehensive knowledge of project lifecycle processes
- Proficiency in software systems such as Salesforce, NetSuite, Power BI, and Excel
- Capability to independently direct work in an unstructured setting, manage ambiguity, and establish priorities
- Advanced Excel, Power Query, DAX, SQL experience is desired
