Summary:

At Powin, we are expanding our Product Management group to support our rapidly expanding customer base and product platforms. As part of our team, you will drive the strategic ideation, development, and launch of our next generation software and hardware platforms. The Product Manager will be a core contributor to developing the vision for a growing portfolio of hardware and software features supporting thousands of megawatt-hours of dispatchable clean energy globally.

The Product Manager will have domain-specific experience, a strong understanding of the energy storage industry, and a passion for clean energy. The Product Manager will perform fundamental research of market needs and industry trends. The Product Manager will collect detailed information from customers and stakeholders (both internal and external) about product performance and desired product capabilities, work with the Marketing and Sales organizations to establish current and future product capabilities, and perform market-sizing and cost/benefit analyses to guide product development strategy.

Job Details:

  • Support senior Product Management staff to develop Powin’s long-term product strategy and roadmap
  • Proactively identify product gaps, industry needs/trends, and pain/value points for internal and external customers through rigorous market research. Focus on opportunities for product differentiation and growth.
  • Conduct market sizing and valuation analyses to prioritize product needs in the roadmap
  • Quantify the value of new hardware and software product features to help prioritize research and development
  • Lead cross-functional teams to plan and execute the product lifecycle, including new product prototyping, development, launch, and evaluation
  • Collaborate with Marketing, Technical Documentation, and Sales organizations to present a clear picture of current product capabilities and a future timeline of product types and capabilities
  • Travel to domestic and international market trade shows, technical conferences, and symposia, as well as regular visits to Powin production facilities and installation sites (travel will constitute

  • Write business cases as well as Market/Product Requirements Documents (MRDs and PRDs)
  • Work with technology team to review product testing to ensure new products meet product requirements and expectations
  • Participate in customer meetings to understand customer needs and answer questions about product capabilities

  • Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or a combined business/engineering track or relevant equivalent experience
  • 4-6 years of relevant product management and/or clean energy industry experience
  • Strong technical knowledge in one or more ESS-related disciplines including electrochemical cell engineering, mechanical and electrical engineering, industrial control systems, Battery Management System (BMS) software, Energy Management System (EMS) software, Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) software, or grid-scale power electronics
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate professionally verbally and in writing, work in a fast-paced environment as an outstanding team player, and learn new frameworks, new environments, and new technologies
  • Demonstrated ability to lead without formal authority.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with a high degree of autonomy and the ability to learn new skills quickly.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office suite with demonstrated ability to synthesize technical information into concise reports and presentations for non-technical audiences
  • Ability to work cross functionally, explain concepts to others with different backgrounds/degrees
  • Strong customer facing skills
  • Ability to work flexible work hours as needed
  • Ability to travel approximately <20% of the time for market trade shows, technical conferences, Powin production facilities, etc.

  • Graduate degree (MS, MBA, or PhD) in engineering or combined business/engineering track preferred
  • Education and/or experience in the grid-scale ESS industry either as a vendor or consumer (such as utility, IPP or EPC) preferred
  • Knowledge of the larger renewable energy industry (policies, de-regulation, solar, wind, etc.) preferred
  • Familiarity with all concepts required for ESS product development, including: basic electrical engineering, power electronics, cell chemistry, SCADA, BMS, EMS, and Power Plant Controller (PPC) preferred
  • Sales and/or business experience preferred
  • Previous experience as a Product Manager in a similar market preferred
