Aeris Services is currently looking to hire a Wind Turbine Maintenance Tech-Level I independent contractor who can be available on weekends and has the ability to travel for projects. The Wind Turbine Maintenance Tech-Level I independent contractor role includes performing routine maintenance on wind turbines with junior and senior level techs. This role will require travel between assigned projects. Below are the responsibilities.

Responsibilities

  • Understands the maintenance and assembly terminology and processes.
  • Performs routine preventive maintenance on wind turbine mechanical, electrical and hydraulic systems.
  • Performs troubleshooting and repairs on wind turbine mechanical, electrical and hydraulic systems.
  • Recognizes the occurrences of wind turbine error codes and appropriately reports the problem.
  • Provides support in the removal and installation of wind turbine mechanical, electrical and hydraulic components.
  • Provides support with heavy equipment (crane) rigging and directing.
  • Performs component retrofits and upgrades.
  • Engages with clients and team leaders.
  • Provides quality services to customers.
  • Performs maintenance and repairs of wind turbine controllers.
  • Completes required reports and other paperwork, including computer data entry as needed.
  • Provides support in maintenance and repair of high-voltage systems.
  • Maintains adherence to Company policies, safety standards and good housekeeping practices.
  • Cleans and maintains all hydraulic and manual tools.
  • Demonstrates the ability to learn troubleshooting and repair of wind turbines.
  • Supports the Tech III and Lead in site preparation (i.e. coordination of labor and materials)
  • Provides support in rigging, derigging operations, and inspections of equipment.
  • Ability to travel between projects.
  • Acts responsibly and professionally.
  • Mechanical and electrical O&M wind energy skills.
  • Utilizing hydraulic tools for torque.
  • Collection of grease and oil samples.
  • LPS system/test troubleshooting.
  • Laser alignment (Generator and pitch system).
  • Inspection, maintenance, and repair of wind turbines.
  • Maintenance of switchgear, pitch systems, yaw, generator, CCU and other turbine components.
  • Wind turbine systems, including substations and underground transmission systems.

Minimum Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED, required.
  • 1 year of experience minimum.
  • Any O&M wind industry certificate.
  • Certified GWO required.
  • Blade work experience required.
  • GE LOTO Certificate highly preferred.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and a clean driving record.

Desired Skills And Competencies

  • Knowledge of Technical Trade, Maintenance, Electrical, Instrumentation and/or Operations is strongly preferred.
  • Adaptable to changing priorities and evolving needs.
  • Certificate and/or Associates of Applied Science in Wind Turbine Technology highly preferred.

Physical & Environmental Requirements

  • Ability to climb 60-125 meters in height, ability to lift, push/pull and carry items up to 50 lbs., and the ability to stand, stoop, kneel, and bend for prolonged periods of time.
  • Ability to grip and manually manipulate, often with repetitive motion, items such as, but not limited to, hand tools, turbine parts, comfort working in confined spaces and at heights over 100 meters and use equipment with a maximum weight capacity of 300 lb.
  • Having efficient field of vision including visual depth perception and ability to distinguish colors.
  • Able to work in demanding physical and inclement weather conditions.
