Job Description

Overview:
Responsible for serving as the functional leader for the Project Controls Department, acting as a part of MasTec Renewables strategic leadership team as key contributor. The Vice President is responsible for all project cost and schedule controls for Mastec Renewables, including earned value management, schedule management, cost & change management, equipment and labor management, project forecasting, and the management and talent development for the project controls team. This position is also responsible for implementing and continuously improving all project controls processes, systems, and tools within the Company and shall act as a key resource to other department team members and Company leadership.

This is a remote position, which can be based anywhere in the U.S. This position supports our business across the United States. This position will have up to 25% travel to office and project locations to support the business.
The position includes a vehicle allowance and annual incentive plan. When overnight travel is required, meals and lodging will also be provided.

Responsibilities:

  • Take reasonable care of your own and others health and safety and of those who may be affected by the day-to-day delivery of this role by taking personal responsibility for MasTec Renewables Safe by Choice
  • Establish and manage the Project Controls team assigned to the operating groups to perform the following activities: earned value management, budget/cost estimating controls, equipment and labor planning, job set-up, cost and phase code control, forecasting, productivity analysis, scheduling, change management, claims analysis functions, preparation and analysis of schedule baseline, progress schedules, project labor forecasts, schedule analysis, and project progress reporting
  • Manage, coordinate, and evaluate Project Controls Directors who are responsible for the cost and schedule within their assigned operating group
  • Give clear direction and targets to ensure all Project Controls team members will have the ability to grow and achieve their goals along with the overall goals of the segment are met
  • Drive commitment to accurate and timely reporting, ensuring data-driven decisions
  • Ensure that senior leaders and project teams have accurate data and reports necessary to know and understand project costs, productivity, schedule performance, trends, and forecasts in real time
  • Identify trends and deviations and communicate root causes of variances and recommended corrective courses of action to operations management based on relevant analyses
  • Interface with senior leaders as a trusted advisor to provide guidance and recommendations
  • Proactively build relationships between the project controls team, project teams, operational groups, and generally at all levels
  • Inspire trust and ethical behavior by creating an atmosphere of integrity with fair and respectful behavior
  • Promote the sharing of information with team members and at all management levels
  • Participate and assist in attracting, recruiting, developing, and retaining top caliber talent
  • Promote a culture of safety, quality, collaboration, and continuous improvement across the organization
  • Create, edit, publish, and maintain project controls standard operating procedures for use by project teams
  • Develop or refine project controls systems and reports, challenging obsolete practices, questioning accepted truths, and eliminating non-value-add processes all for the purpose of enhancing project and Company performance
  • Identify and act on opportunities to improve processes and implement best practices within Mastec Renewables
  • Ensure reviews are completed of project teams implementation and use of project controls processes, systems, and tools in the field, and that corrective action recommendations are communicated to leadership, and related corrective actions are implemented
  • Oversee and guide the implementation, training, and support activities for operations groups and project teams on all project controls processes, systems, and tools on a rolling basis to ensure all necessary project team members can proficiently use and comply with such systems
  • Work closely with Mastec Renewables leadership, as needed, to develop and accomplish goals and strategic plans, including business planning, budgeting, and operations and management process improvements
  • Engage as a part of the Companys strategic leadership team, providing thought leadership in areas of expertise

Qualifications:

Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Project Management, Construction Management, Engineering, Business, or related major is required
  • Minimum of 15 years of experience in project management and/or project controls in progressing roles of management responsibility in construction, particularly linear infrastructure, or renewables construction is required
  • Previous experience successfully managing teams
  • Construction industry experience required
  • Experience in evaluating, selecting, and implementing new systems and tools
  • PMI Project Management Professional certification or familiarity preferred
  • Other professional organization affiliations and certifications (PMI, AGC, AACEI) preferred
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Word, Excel, Power BI, and Outlook
