Summary: The Utility Solar Project Manager is responsible for establishing project objectives and overseeing both construction and financial activities, either remotely or onsite. Acting as the primary company representative, the Project Manager ensures the successful completion and financial outcome of utility solar projects. This role requires strict adherence to established processes and close collaboration with senior management. Within the first 30, 60, and 90 days, the Project Manager must display proficiency in navigating subcontracting processes, software use, and project tracking systems; report on project risks, understand project work planning and scope, and effectively utilize project tracking systems; and demonstrate a thorough understanding of all management requirements for assigned projects.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Ensure construction completion complies with contract documents and building codes.
  • Ensure team adherence to project specifications and contract documents.
  • Manage financial aspects by meeting labor, material, equipment, and subcontract budgets.
  • Oversee submittals and deliveries to meet milestones and ensure timely material installation.
  • Produce accurate bills of material for major equipment purchases.
  • Scope subcontracted items for compliance, negotiate terms, and issue subcontracts.
  • Prepare accurate change request estimates.
  • Maintain accuracy in all logs and project tracking tools.
  • Become an expert in the project’s general and special conditions.
  • Discuss manpower requirements weekly with superintendents or project executives.
  • Ensure weekly updates to production trackers and alignment with budgeted hours.
  • Monitor job progress and assist in cost-to-complete and man-hour estimates.
  • Draft letters to notify the owner’s representative of project conditions and delays.
  • Ensure positive cash flow, billings, and days sales open align with or exceed contract durations.
  • Foster cooperative relationships with clients and company personnel.
  • Monitor field housekeeping for job safety compliance.
  • Anticipate and communicate potential long lead item delays.
  • Ensure timely and cost-competitive material ordering and delivery.
  • Resolve material issues with the purchasing manager or vendor.
  • Manage preconstruction activities, including permits, equipment procurement, and prefabrication coordination.
  • Collaborate closely with assigned project engineers.

Experience and Education:

  • Preferred experience in utility solar projects.
  • 5+ years of experience in Electrical Construction Management, Electrical Estimating, and/or Electrical Project Management.
  • General knowledge of contract law and project accounting.
  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field (e.g., Electrical Engineering, Construction Management) and/or successful graduation from I.B.E.W. Journeyman preferred.
  • Proficiency in MS Office (Excel, Word, Outlook) is required.
  • Proficiency in construction management software such as Bluebeam, Procore, and MS Project.
  • Ability to travel throughout California and Nevada, with work conducted on project sites.
