Job Description
We are seeking a Travel Solar Electrical Engineer to provide on-site technical support, oversee commissioning, and ensure proper interconnection of solar PV systems. This role requires travel to project sites, where you will collaborate with cross-functional teams, troubleshoot technical issues, develop interconnection plans, and ensure compliance with local utility and electrical codes and standards. Candidates can be located anywhere nationwide and will be required to travel to project sites in California, Kansas City, New Jersey, Arizona, and Las Vegas.
Responsibilities
On-Site Support:
- Travel to various project sites to investigate the viability of interconnection, testing, and commissioning of solar PV systems.
- Provide hands-on support to field teams and subcontractors, ensuring that all electrical work is executed according to design specifications and safety standards.
- Conduct site assessments and inspections to identify potential electrical issues and recommend corrective actions.
System Design and Optimization:
- Develop of electrical designs for solar PV systems, including single-line diagrams, wiring layouts, and grounding schemes.
- Perform system sizing, power flow analysis, and energy yield simulations to optimize performance.
- Collaborate with project managers and design teams to provide feedback on system improvements and cost optimization.
Troubleshooting and Maintenance:
- Diagnose and troubleshoot electrical issues, including inverters, wiring, grounding, and monitoring systems, to ensure reliable operation.
- Work with suppliers and manufacturers to resolve equipment issues and implement warranty repairs.
Compliance and Quality Assurance:
- Ensure all electrical installations comply with local, state, and national electrical codes (e.g., NEC) and industry standards (e.g., UL, IEEE).
- Prepare and submit electrical permit packages and coordinate with local authorities to obtain necessary approvals.
- Conduct quality assurance checks and document all site activities, including test results, safety reports, and as-built drawings.
Customer and Stakeholder Engagement:
- Communicate with clients, utility representatives, and other stakeholders to provide technical support and project updates.
- Provide training to customers on the operation and maintenance of their solar PV systems.
- Support sales and business development teams by providing technical expertise and site evaluations.
Qualifications
- Bachelors degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field.
- Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in electrical engineering, with at least 2 years in solar PV systems.
- Willingness to travel extensively (up to 50% of the time) to various project sites across the country.
- Strong understanding of electrical codes (NEC), interconnection standards, and permitting processes.
- Experience with solar design software (e.g. Helioscope) and electrical design tools (e.g., AutoCAD).
- Excellent problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently and in a team environment.
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to interact effectively with clients and stakeholders.
- NABCEP Certification is highly desirable.

Pay: $107,819.00 – $115,496.00 per year
