The Market Leader-Transmission & Distribution is responsible for overseeing and leading the technical T&D practice in Canada. This includes leading projects and being responsible for certain accounts and engagements, as well as the overall compliance with national and local regulations, and maintaining high standards of service reliability and customer satisfaction.

Your Impact

  • Provide proactive and strategic leadership for the transmission and distribution function, offering direction, expertise, and support to ensure project and work site deliverables are successfully achieved within the business sector.
  • You will be the Technical Market Leader for T&D, reporting to Vice-President-Power
  • You will be responsible for leading and growing the Transmission and Distribution practice
  • You will act as a thought leader, applying advanced in-depth and broad knowledge and be externally recognized as a top go-to resource in their field
  • You will make decisions on highly complex issues regarding work approach for project components and completion of team tasks and responsibilities
  • You will anticipate business needs, secure required resources, and lead initiatives to implement change in the organization
  • You will make recommendations and be involved with important decision-making on highly technical
    and complex aspects of WSP projects
  • You will be accountable to lead certain client accounts and engagements within T&D
  • You will support the growth of technical disciplines required for T&D
  • You will ensure compliance with all relevant regulations and standards and provide oversight and governance on the various major project ongoing within the T&D team
  • You will provide governance on T&D jobs including quality, and provide leadership on T&D proposals
  • You will collaborate with other internal departments and stakeholders to improve quality and project delivery, including management of subconsultants
  • You will mentor and coach other T&D staff as required.
  • Lead larger-scale more complex Transmission and Distribution projects ensuring contributors know what they are required to do and by when, preparing and overseeing relevant project budgets, monitoring external events, tracking hours and expenses, ensuring satisfactory performance, and supervising subcontractors, contract work, and employees.
  • Lead technical aspects of contract negotiation, presentations, and meetings.
  • Support the overall long-term strategy, growth, and pipeline development of transmission and distribution work for WSP in assigned area of responsibility, with a focus on infrastructure opportunities in all disciplines (planning, design, and strategic consulting and program/construction management).
  • Responsible for the profitable performance of the individual projects and the successful completion of the projects within the specified area.

Who You Are

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelors Degree in Electrical Engineering.
  • 12+ years of relevant post education experience in electrical engineering and infrastructure design for capital projects in power generation, transmission, and distribution at a utility, industrial, or commercial scale.
  • Engineer license required (multi-state preferred).
  • Advanced proficiency with electrical engineering principles, practices, process, design/build, standard of care, and the application to permitting and project work-related issues.
  • Advanced proficiency with infrastructure design.
  • Strong working knowledge of relevant engineering and electrical construction laws, codes, regulations, compliance practices, and record-keeping requirements, and the business impact upon the organization.
  • Advanced proficiency with making technical computations and calculations involving the application of engineering principles, understanding plans and specifications, and making factual comparisons to the appropriate regulations.
  • Excellent leadership and interpersonal communication skills with the ability to effectively, persuasively, and tactfully interact with employees at all levels of the organization.
  • Tactical lateral thinking and strong analytical skills with attention to detail and prioritization of responsibilities in a pressure work environment.
  • Ability to elicit cooperation from a wide variety of sources, including senior management, clients, regulators, and company-wide staff, including those with whom no formal hierarchical relationship exits.
  • Advanced proficiency with office automation, discipline-specific design software (i.e., CADD, Aspen, CAPE, ETAP, WIN IGS, Inventor, AutoCADD electrical), technology, math principles, predictive models, spreadsheets, and tools.
  • Proven experience in business development with an existing network in the Transmission & Distribution market
  • Strong financial and business acumen – experience with managing business operations and/or a P&L is an asset
  • Strong understanding of the energy sector, including industry trends and emerging technologies related to the energy transformation and decarbonization
  • Ability to negotiate and build relationships with clients
  • P.Eng. or P.Tech. designation is an asset
  • Bilingual in both French and English is an asset.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Masters Degree in Engineering.
  • Strong experience in managing the review and approval of documents and discipline-specific deliverables, certifications, processes, and plans in a multi-project environment is highly desirable

Compensation
Expected Salary (all locations): $130,000-240,000
WSP USA is providing the compensation range that the company in good faith believes it might pay and offer for this position, based on the successful applicants education, experience, knowledge, skills, abilities in addition to internal equity and specific geographic location. WSP USA reserves the right to ultimately pay more or less than the posted range and offer additional benefits and other compensation, depending on circumstances not related to an applicants sex or other status protected by local, state, and/or federal law.
