Role Title: Technologist – Senior Battery Scientist

Role Function and Group: Deep Expertise – Chemistry Americas

Location: Linden, NJ

Position Summary:

Your focus will be developing new polymeric binders, dispersants, coatings and electrolytes for metal ion batteries used in the fast-paced Electric Vehicle market.

  • Your key responsibility will be to build a pipeline of new polymer materials for a diverse array of emerging energy storage devices, across current and future generation technologies
  • Utilize your experience and network to drive technical projects and create sustainable relationships with new partners and customers
  • Utilize your experience in product development and business development together with hands-on experience of cell assembly and testing to be a pioneer in this field

Key Outputs: What we can expect from you

  • Lead, support and consult on projects which result in new technical capabilities in the energy storage industry – new molecules, formulations, intellectual property, products, processes, tests.
  • Represent Infineum externally at collaborators and customers as a technical focal point
  • Use market voice to shape a new polymer product portfolio
  • Translate experimental data, both performance and characterization into technology design
  • Take an active role in the safe and efficient working practices in the lab
  • Help further develop the new battery lab to the next level of capability
  • Communicate your ideas effectively to varied audiences, including documentation
  • Work collaboratively within the team and with colleagues throughout Infineum, across a diverse array of teams
  • Leverage external resources to successfully deliver products that bring value
  • Any additional responsibilities as assigned

What skills will you gain from this role?

A Technologist has opportunities to develop a varied technical expertise from designing and scaling up of new molecules to gaining understanding of how additives and complex materials work inside a combustion engine and beyond. Technologists have an opportunity to lead and contribute to projects and activities with clear connection to the market from idea conception through commercialization of new products.

A successful candidate is likely to have:

  • Ideally 5-7+ years of experience but will consider 2+ years of experience in the energy storage field, battery cell or part-cell development experience preferred
  • Applied commercial experience in the energy storage field
  • Familiarity with the strengths and weaknesses of the materials used in cutting edge battery technology
  • Understanding of electrochemistry – methods, data analysis and material characteristics
  • Hands-on experience and capability are desired, although a team of technicians will perform routine operations
  • Experience of Li-ion coin/pouch cell assembly and failure analysis
  • A track record of commercial product delivery and IP generation
  • Extensive knowledge and network in their industry, from both technical and marketing perspectives that translate into projects with line of sight to solving cutting edge problems
  • A technical background (BS or higher) in Engineering, Chemistry and/or Material Sciences, PhD preferred
  • Technical communication skills (written, verbal, and graphic). Ability to develop compelling technical arguments and transmit them at the appropriate level with knowledge and confidence
  • Strong interpersonal, collaboration, and communication skills with demonstrated ability to work effectively in teams and develop personal relationships
  • Attention to detail and the ability to think logically, applying different tactics to solve problems using resources available both internally and externally.
  • Ability to deal with uncertainty and ambiguity, taking a flexible approach when needed information is limited by external circumstances
  • Capacity to efficiently balance priorities; make independent and timely decisions.
