POSITION: Technical Sales Engineer – US (EV and BESS)

Base salary: $120,000 – $150,000

This company is a US-based Lithium-ion battery cell manufacturer founded to disrupt the Lithium-ion industry based on advancements in production techniques alongside material discovery and formulation, derived from nearly a decade of R&D. These advancements form the platform for radical battery breakthroughs. The battery cell innovations comprise the entire cell infrastructure: material innovation and application; advanced cell structures; and production process innovation.

Position Purpose:

Technical Sales Engineer – US (TSE-US) will lead the Sales Development of our US-based lithium-ion battery business, a strategically important, fast-growing market. Through focusing on EV battery market development and building strategic partnerships, the TSE-US will be responsible for building and maintain strong relationships with key customers, including OEMs, module and pack integrators, system integrators, and distributors, to understand their requirements and identify opportunities to meet their needs. TSE-US will conduct technical consultations with customers to understand their specific application needs and provide tailored product recommendations and solutions. They will work closely across all organizational departments and with 3rd party consultants and will report to the Chief Executive Officer. Leading this important growth initiative will require you to bring industry leading expertise and best practices that are biased toward customer solutioning, and satisfaction based on advanced technical understanding of cell technologies. Our ideal candidate will be trusted to dive right in, take the lead, use initiative, and help accelerate our growth by building a comprehensive and actionable plan for addressing customer needs with technology and developing new and adjacent markets within the developing EV and BESS industries in the United States. The desired candidate will be highly skilled at communication internally and externally at a technical level, alongside guiding the technical teams with technical expertise. The ideal candidate will develop relationships with customers and partners, develop comprehensive proposals, including technical specifications, pricing, and delivery schedules, to meet customer requirements. Principal Accountabilities:

▪ Develop and implement sales strategies to achieve revenue targets and expand market share for lithium-ion battery technology solutions.

▪ Build and maintain strong relationships with key customers, including OEMs, system integrators, and distributors, to understand their engineering requirements and identify business opportunities.

▪ Conduct technical/engineering consultations with customers to understand their specific application needs and provide tailored product recommendations and solutions.

▪ Lead cell-to-module and module-to-pack engineering, utilizing cell technologies on the basis of technical documents and specifications shared by prospective customers and develop tailored solutions that meet their needs.

▪ Lead and collaborate with internal technical teams to develop comprehensive proposals, including technical specifications, pricing, and delivery schedules, to meet customer requirements.

▪ Work closely with cross-functional teams, including engineering, manufacturing, and product development, to ensure seamless execution of customer projects and successful product launches.

▪ Lead the development and implementation of effective pricing strategies and competitive positioning to maximize revenue growth while ensuring profitability and market competitiveness.

▪ Lead sales presentations, demonstrations, and negotiations with customers, highlighting the unique value proposition of our lithium-ion battery technology solutions.

▪ Stay updated on industry trends, competitive landscape, and emerging technologies in the lithium-ion battery space to identify new market opportunities.

▪ Monitor and track sales performance, analyze market trends, and provide regular reports to management on sales activities, achievements, and challenges.

▪ Work hand in hand with customers and existing leadership teams to deliver outstanding customer outcomes.

▪ Develop the team’s capability to leverage the full product portfolio to influence customer design and specification requirements.

▪ Present as am engineering subject matter expert at relevant industry events/seminars.

▪ Maintain and share professional knowledge through education, networking, events, and presentations.

▪ Support the development of partnerships and alliances to enhance our position in the EV battery market, including with battery manufacturers, automotive manufacturers, design consultants, and EPCs among others.

▪ Monitor and evaluate industry trends, incentives (e.g., Inflation Reduction Act incentives), and customer drivers and meet regularly with management and stakeholders to discuss strategy.

▪ Support, through technical insights, in the planning and coordination of the implementation of business plans and the penetration of new markets.

▪ Closely align with the technical team to guide solution development to meet partner and customer needs.

Required Knowledge & Skills:

▪ Bachelor’s degree in chemical or electrical engineering, with MSc., PhD. or equivalents preferred.

▪ Prior experience with a US-based automotive OEM in Battery Energy Storage, EV or related disciplines.

▪ Existing experience with suppliers, potential partners, customers, and the management of technical engagement with the above in the context of the EV/BESS battery space.

▪ Knowledge of battery markets and customers, incentives, and policies in the US and ideally global markets.

▪ Familiarity with industry-specific certifications, standards, and regulations pertaining to lithium-ion batteries in the context of electric vehicles, energy storage systems, and other relevant applications.

▪ Knowledge of battery cell thermal management, safety protocols, and degradation mechanisms, module, pack design and engineering, alternative and emerging chemistries (Na-ion, S-ion), Electric Motors, Power electronics and Control systems, BMS, EMS, as well as Transmission, Charging and High Voltage Electrical Distribution systems; this should also extend to the relevant software systems associated with the above hardware.

▪ Strong project management skills, including the ability to effectively prioritize tasks, manage resources, and meet project deadlines in a dynamic and fast-paced environment.

▪ Ability to express technical and non-technical concepts and solutions clearly and concisely.

▪ Ability to influence others in the organization with no direct reporting relationship.

▪ Ability to articulate a strong value proposition at both the executive level and at the engineering level.

▪ Strong business acumen.

▪ Must have strong Microsoft Office Suite experience (Excel, PowerPoint, etc.) and collaboration tool experience (Teams, Zoom, Mural, Miro, etc.).
