WORK LOCATION, SCHEDULE, & TRAVEL
- This position will be based out of The Energy Center in Birmingham, AL.
- Hybrid work schedule (both in-office and telecommute); currently three (3) days in-office and two (2) days telecommute (subject to adjustment).
- Relocation assistance may be provided if the successful candidate does not currently live within a reasonable commute distance.
- This position will require some travel (day and overnight, up to 25%) and the ability to work successfully in a remote/virtual environment with access to internet service.
JOB SUMMARY
This position has the primary responsibilities of leading a team of P&C Applications (PCA) engineers and maintaining the PCA capital project schedules. The role includes coaching lesser-experienced team members, as well as managing employee performance through written and verbal developmental feedback. This role also has the responsibility of assigning resources to PCA capital and maintenance activities and monitoring capital work schedules. Additionally, the successful candidate will support the team by providing QA for various activities. This position reports to a PCA Supervisor.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
- Create a safe work environment through a Safety First mentality.
- Manage the selection, development, and performance of direct reports.
- Make capital project and maintenance activity resource assignments and manage the workload of the team.
- Ensure timely and accurate updates to project schedules by the team.
- Provide formal and informal training to PCA team members.
- Assist internal partners and external customers with scheduled activities and emergency requests.
- Assist new employees and partners with capital project scoping.
- Attend project scoping and P&C Design meetings as needed to provide guidance for P&C schemes.
- Perform QA review of PCA relay settings and P&C Design packages.
- Participate in the PCA on-call rotation.
- This job requires statewide travel including some overnight stays and storm duty availability.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS
Education & Experience Requirements:
- BS degree in Engineering (not Engineering Technology) is required.
- BS degree in Electrical Engineering is preferred.
- Professional Engineering (P.E.) license is preferred.
- At least 2 years of experience working in (or in support of) transmission protection and controls (100kv or higher)
- Experience in calculating relay settings or commissioning P&C assets for an electric utility is preferred.
