About the role

This role will be a part of the Energy Storage Systems (ESS) team and responsible for the systems engineering aspect of the development and integration of Battery Modules, Power Distribution System, and Energy Storage Systems within magniX projects. You will be responsible for the definition, development, and verification of Battery Modules and Power Distribution System. The position will provide an opportunity to participate in the full development life cycle- everything from capturing and managing requirements to verification of systems aspects. You will be participating in exciting projects within magniX, including our hybrid electric demonstrator for the NASA EPFD program.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with magniX teams and external partners to develop, integrate, and qualify lithium-based battery systems
  • Capture and manage battery systems requirements. Review compliance of design to specifications and requirements
  • Decompose the system-level requirements to the sub-system, specify system and sub-system functions, and perform functional allocation for the Energy Storage System.
  • Perform validation and verification, provide test plans for NASA, EASA, and FAA regulatory compliance
  • Participate in discussions regarding certification and demonstration of the means of compliance related to the battery pack
  • Define tests and create test plans related to the demonstration of thermal runaway containment
  • Participate in testing activities, analyze the test results, and prepare test reports
  • Raise problem reports and change requests, participate in the Engineering review board
  • Collaborate with stakeholders on a variety of energy storage solution discussions such as efforts towards certification, maintaining compliance in all areas, and solutions for aircraft installation
  • Contribute to planning activities related to the development of battery systems.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree or higher in Electrical, Mechanical, or aerospace engineering
  • 3-5+ years experience with safety-critical aerospace systems development
  • Experience with requirement management process
  • Experience with aerospace systems certification
  • Experience with system verification and qualification tests
  • Experience working with battery systems
  • Good written and verbal communication skills
  • Fast-paced learner with new technology and design solutions.

This position’s approximate base salary range is $115,000 – $145,000 annually, depending on experience and education.

This position must meet export control compliance requirements. To meet export control compliance requirements, a “U.S. Person” as defined by 22 C.F.R. §120.15 is required. Under §120.15, a “U.S. Person” includes U.S. citizens, lawful permanent residents, refugees, or asylees. As this position requires access to export-controlled data, an appropriate export authorization by the U.S. Government may be required prior to such access.
