Job Title: Senior Vice President (SVP) of Project Finance and Capital Markets

Location: New York City, NY

Position Overview:

I’m on the search for a Senior Vice President (SVP) of Project Finance and Capital Markets the candidate will be a pivotal leader in driving the financial strategy and expansion of our clients community solar projects. As the company prepares for significant growth in 2025, this role will involve owning and leading all aspects of project finance, capital markets, and mergers & acquisitions (M&A). Additionally, the SVP will be responsible for building and leading a high-performing team to support these functions. The ideal candidate will bring extensive experience in renewable finance, tax equity, and M&A, with a proven ability to execute complex financial transactions and partnerships. This is an ownership position, offering the opportunity to shape the financial future of the company. The role is on-site in New York City three days a week.

Key Responsibilities:

Project Finance:

  • Lead and own the structuring, negotiation, and execution of project finance transactions, including debt, equity, and tax equity structures.
  • Oversee comprehensive financial modeling, analysis, and risk assessment to ensure the success of community solar projects.
  • Collaborate with internal teams and external stakeholders to align financial strategies with project goals and timelines

Capital Markets:

  • Develop and implement capital-raising strategies to support the company’s aggressive growth plans, including equity and debt offerings.
  • Manage and cultivate relationships with financial institutions, investors, and other capital providers.
  • Monitor capital markets to identify opportunities and optimize the company’s financial structure and cost of capital.

Mergers & Acquisitions:

  • Identify, evaluate, and execute strategic M&A opportunities to support the company’s expansion objectives.
  • Lead due diligence, financial analysis, and negotiation processes for acquisitions, joint ventures, and strategic partnerships.
  • Ensure seamless integration of acquired assets or companies into the existing portfolio.

Tax Equity:

  • Structure and negotiate tax equity investments to maximize financial returns and support project viability.
  • Work closely with legal and tax advisors to navigate regulatory requirements and optimize tax benefits.
  • Stay abreast of developments in tax equity markets and legislation that impact renewable energy financing.

Team Building & Leadership:

  • Lead the recruitment, hiring, and development of team members within the Project Finance and Capital Markets functions.
  • Provide strategic direction and financial leadership to the executive team, influencing key business decisions and growth strategies.
  • Establish and maintain robust financial policies, procedures, and controls to ensure regulatory compliance and financial integrity.
  • Mentor and develop the finance team, fostering a high-performance culture and encouraging continuous learning and improvement.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Economics, Business, or a related field; MBA or CFA preferred.
  • 15+ years of experience in renewable finance, project finance, tax equity, capital markets, and M&A, with a strong track record of leadership and execution.
  • Extensive experience in the renewable energy sector, with a deep understanding of the community solar market.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead large-scale financial transactions and partnerships, including tax equity deals.
  • Strong financial modeling, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and leadership skills, with the ability to influence at all levels of the organization.
  • Proven experience in hiring and leading high-performing teams.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, growth-oriented environment, managing multiple priorities simultaneously.
  • Willingness to be on-site in New York City three days a week.
