Job Summary

The Sustainability Specialist position is a full-time role supporting programming and projects to implement the Town of Superior Sustainability Action Plan. This is a 40 hour per week position and work is generally scheduled in the office Monday through Friday during normal business hours; there are opportunities to work from home two days a week after a probationary period. This position also requires occasional weekend or evening hours for committee or event support. This position works under the supervision of the Sustainability Manager.

Duties the Specialist will be responsible for include sustainability data and metrics collection, maintaining the Sustainability Action Plan Dashboard, sustainability program development and administration, environmental event planning and outreach support, sustainability e-newsletter content creation, green business program implementation, and policy analysis.

Hiring Range $62,234 – $75,254 annually depending on qualifications

Essential Job Duties

  • Completes data collection, analysis, and management for Sustainability Action Plan metrics related to greenhouse gas emission reductions, water conservation, renewable energy adoption and energy efficiency, air quality, waste diversion, sustainable transportation, and regeneration and natural environment and maintains the associated dashboard
  • Provides creativity and support for current and future Town programs such as waste programs, water conservation programs, transportation projects, green business or pilot projects.
  • Assesses policy options and assists with implementation of related sustainability projects.
  • Develops outreach materials and creates content for Town’s communications channels (sustainability e-newsletter, web, print, social media, etc.).
  • Supports outreach and planning of sustainability events, including April Earth Month events and Ecotoberfest regional event.
  • Participate in and support regional collaboration efforts to promote and drive sustainability initiatives in the area.
  • Performs related work as required and assigned.

  • Strong computer skills including Microsoft Excel
  • Strong data analytics skills
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to translate complex topics through written and visual communications
  • Ability to produce basic design work through Canva
  • Ability to demonstrate professionalism and proficiency in performing tasks requiring good judgment and superior attention to detail
  • Ability to efficiently coordinate many activities and work effectively with other staff in a positive work environment
  • Ability to excel in a collaborative team environment
  • Ability to interact comfortably with other departments and agencies to build relationships and request data

Supplemental Information

Candidates should have at least two years of relevant professional experience. Desired additional qualifications include a degree in Sustainability, Environmental Management, Planning, Urban Design, Environmental Science, Environmental Policy, Data Science or any equivalent combination of education and experience to perform job duties. Must have a passion for advancing community sustainability.
