PRIMARY PURPOSE OF POSITION

BGE’s Strategy team is looking for a dynamic, innovative, collaborative technical leader or engineer, who is a creative-thinker and impact-player seeking to develop new programs and projects that will transform BGE through Maryland’s clean energy transformation and deliver world-class customer experiences. Projects will focus on clean energy and smart grid solutions such as distributed energy resources (DERs), battery storage, grid resiliency and modernization, electric vehicles, hydrogen, network geothermal and generally aim to promote decarbonization and equitable community planning.

This role will work with a variety of stakeholders to curate, scope and lead cross-functional, compelling projects that are both transformational to our business and beneficial to our communities which may be submitted for funding opportunities, in partnership with BGE internal teams, our customers, and external partners. This role will serve as the technical lead for developing projects and will draw on his/her technical experiences to vet opportunities, lead cross-functional teams and SMEs to build compelling project scopes tied to desired grid and customer outcomes, and support funding applications and/or partner-led projects. This role will develop and manage internal and external stakeholder relationships, build greater partner engagement, contribute technical scope to funding proposals, as well as be responsible for cross company reporting functions that may include written updates and presentations.

The successful candidate will have experience in the energy industry, a working knowledge of technical aspects of how the electric grid works (i.e., distribution, transmission, smart grid automation, etc.) as well as bring ideas of how it will evolve through the clean energy transformation. The candidate should also be a self-starter, comfortable with big-picture ideas and vision, but balanced by very strong execution capabilities, including attention to detail, collaboration skills, strategies to motivate and guide project teams, strong communication skills (written and oral). Additionally, this role will be a high-impact, high-visibility role in terms of being part of BGE’s Strategic Planning team, working with senior leaders in BGE and across the Exelon family of companies. This position may be required to work extended hours for coverage during storms or other energy delivery emergencies.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Lead and manage high profile cross-organizational projects in specialized areas requiring the application of extensive engineering expertise to develop new, innovative programs, projects and/or processes. (25%)
  • Develop, own, and maintain business cases and models for current and future initiatives. Obtain buy in and support from internal stakeholder groups including but not limited to regulatory, finance and operations. (25%)
  • Develop tracking and reporting mechanisms to validate business case assumptions during pilot projects and conduct analysis that inform decisions and strategies for broader scale deployment. (10%)
  • Lead and oversee the activities including establishing strategy, goals and managing communication, activities, and relationships with internal and external stakeholders. (10%)
  • Manage the grant application process, including preparing and submitting grant applications, tracking deadlines, and following up on submitted proposals. (10%)
  • Develop and enforce change management associated with full scale implementation of Emerging Technologies. (5%)
  • Prepare periodic and as needed status reports on the projects and initiatives being executed. (5%)
  • Responsible for monthly handling day to day issues regarding the budget and finances for the team. (5%)
  • Participate in industry leading activities including writing articles and participating in working groups or task forces. (5%)

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a business or S.T.E.M. field with a minimum of 7-10 years relevant experience.
  • Advanced knowledge and understanding of applicable standards, methods, processes and practices, business fundamentals, and performance metrics in the specific functional area supported by this position (e.g., electric or gas operations, customer service, transmission and substation, distribution system operations, regulatory and external affairs).
  • Advanced proficiency in standard software applications (e.g., Microsoft Project, Visio, Excel, & PowerPoint), and relevant specialized business applications (e.g., project portfolio management, requirements/test management, CIS/CRM, customer self-service, telephony, EPS, EAM, work management, & outage management) to support business needs.
  • Demonstrated business acumen and ability to create value with advanced problem solving, financial/analytical, performance management, negotiation, and conflict management skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead a cross-functional team. Demonstrated ability to build consensus, establish trust, meet critical deadlines, communicate effectively, and foster culture change.
  • Customer driven with demonstrated excellent written and oral communication skills and ability to interact with people of all levels.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and implement process enhancements and efficiencies including new technology.
  • In lieu of degree, 9-12 years of relevant experience.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Engineering background preferred, but not required
  • MBA or similar advanced degree
  • Experience leading or managing projects.
  • Strong teamwork, interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate with all management levels.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Experience with local, State or Federal grant applications and processes.
  • Customer and/or partnership relationship management
