Description The Energy global practice at Burns & McDonnell provides a multidisciplinary approach to power solutions from project financing, siting and permitting to turnkey construction and startup. Our experience covers the full breadth of power generation technologies — from gas turbines to solar, batteries, hydrogen, carbon capture and nuclear plant services.

We are in search of a Technology Specialist who will work in our Kansas City, MO World Headquarters office where you will be heavily engaged in working with a focused team to support Burns & McDonnell’s decarbonization and emerging technology implementation strategy and efforts. This will include developing and maintaining technical understanding of identified emerging and decarbonization technologies, leading early studies, technology evaluations, and overall project development initiatives.

What You Will Do

  • Participating in technical development and direction of identified emerging technology/decarbonization technology markets
  • Developing and maintaining relationships with technology suppliers within identified technology market(s)
  • Managing and assisting with technical proposal efforts for emerging technology opportunities
  • Heavy interface with customers and clients across all levels and facets of an organization (internal and external) to identify, understand and cultivate project and technology implementation drivers and goals.
  • Understanding of project, technology, industry, and market economic conditions
  • Support business development efforts to identify and define opportunities and pursue and capture new projects
  • Manage client and team relationships on multiple assigned projects to help drive the direction of the projects and ensure that client and project goals and objectives are being met.
  • Participate in technology/technical oversight of assigned projects/technologies from early front-end development efforts through detailed design and construction.
  • Participate in the execution of feasibility studies, technology evaluations, and conceptual designs as required to support client/project objectives and initiatives.
  • Actively maintain current knowledge and understanding of market trends and technologies. Provide periodic updates to management in support of strategic initiatives, as well as marketing and sales efforts.
  • Establish and maintain relationships with prospective and existing clients.
  • Identify opportunities and support business development efforts to prepare submittals, proposals, presentations, contract negotiations, and related activities.
  • Provide technical leadership and representation of the company through active participation in conferences and technical seminars, including activities such as writing papers, delivering presentations and/or supporting conference marketing initiatives and events.
  • Mentor project staff by providing guidance, instructions, and technical advice.
  • Travel to support project site visits/work, trade shows, industry conferences, and meetings with clients and equipment suppliers.
  • Working with the Director of Decarbonization and Emerging Technology Strategic Market Development Manager to understand market trends, drivers, needs, limitations, etc. to develop strategy approaches for our clients.

Qualifications

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in construction, engineering, business, or related field. and 3 years related professional experience. Required
  • Proven ability to develop and maintain client relationships.
  • Must demonstrate excellent oral and written communication skills; strong interpersonal skills; and the ability to clearly and effectively present complex information to all levels of employees, management, and clients.
  • Excellent planning and analytical skills.
  • Must be capable of devising new approaches to problems encountered. Due to the dynamic nature of the energy market, the ability to learn, understand, and apply new technologies is a must.
