Sr Solar Technician – Inverter
Santa Margarita, CA (onsite)
6+Month Contract
Overview: The Senior Solar Technician is responsible for commissioning, inspecting, maintaining, and troubleshooting inverters and all electrical generation and distribution equipment at solar sites. This includes troubleshooting instrumentation, calibration in a distributed control system, and performing maintenance work safely and efficiently. Overtime, shift work, and travel may be required. Work is performed under the direction of the maintenance supervisor.
Responsibilities
- Perform preventative and corrective maintenance on solar inverters (20%).
- Conduct local plant and unit startup, monitoring, and shutdown, including emergency and routine switching, testing, and return to service (10%).
- Execute emergency, preventive, and predictive maintenance on PV Solar power generating equipment (20%).
- Maintain logs and records of operating conditions and report irregularities (5%).
- Perform maintenance on PLCs, protective relays, utility switchyards, and communication systems (10%).
- Create, plan, document work performed, and close work orders using the work management system (10%).
- Submit documentation reports, safety inspections, timesheets, work orders, and parts consumption (5%).
- Maintain and clean work areas, disposing of waste per company policies (10%).
- Operate and inspect forklifts, trucks, and other powered equipment (5%).
- Work independently or in assigned crews (5%).
Requirements
- 2-year technical degree or equivalent Journeyman certification/qualifications, with 5+ years of experience, including at least 1 year as a Lead Technician and/or Project Manager.
- Clear verbal and written communication, equipment troubleshooting, fault detection, instrument installation, work prioritization, technical information comprehension, data interpretation, and teamwork skills.
- Knowledge of complex analog and digital instrumentation, troubleshooting, repairing, and adjusting instruments, safe equipment cleaning methods, tool use, plant safety rules, reporting and maintenance procedures, and PV Solar plant terminology.
- Familiarity with ABB Power One 1500 and/or SMA CP inverters.
- Proficiency with personal computers, MS Office, and various test equipment.
- Qualified to perform routine and emergency operations at an electric generation facility and HV switchyard.
- Ability to work in various environments, including heights, extreme temperatures, and humidity, while using personal protective safety equipment.
- Capability to lift up to 70 pounds and work around rotating and energized equipment, hazardous materials, and chemicals.
- Willingness to work overtime, non-standard hours, and travel as needed.
