Responsibilities

  • Design and Preparation of organic liquid and hybrid electrolyte formulations for lithium batteries
  • Fundamental understanding of electrolyte and electrolyte interface with lithium metal by designing in-situ/ex-situ experimental protocols
  • Performance degradation studies by post-mortem analysis
  • Collaboration with other components teams to improve electrolyte and overall cell performance and synthetic activities, sourcing, characterizing, and evaluating materials in combination.
  • Understanding of electrolyte sub-components, properties, and processing approaches and their electrochemical performance test
  • Gather relevant technical information, identifies key issues, compares data from different sources; draw appropriate conclusions
  • Work in cross-functional, self-organized multidisciplinary teams
  • Work efficiently to reach goals with target timelines
  • Effectively communicate ideas, concepts, designs, and results with the team
  • Partner with other cell component engineers to identify key milestones and deliverables needed to be able to get to scale
  • Mentor Junior Engineers and scientists to facilitate personal and technical career development
  • Participate in the generation of intellectual property

Required Qualifications

  • BS in materials science, chemistry, chemical engineering, or related discipline and a minimum of 5 years of experience in organic electrolytes and/or lithium battery or a minimum of 10 years of related equivalent industry experience
  • Demonstrated knowledge in Li-S battery and/or Li-ion battery materials, synthesis, testing, and analysis
  • Experience in electrochemical analysis/failure analysis/electrolyte development and cell fabrication
  • Hands-on experience in electrochemical testing methodologies such as Arbin/Maccor/Bio-Logic testing systems and techniques including EIS, CV, GITT/PITT, etc.
  • Strong Knowledge of organic liquids and their interface with a lithium anode, characterization techniques such as GC-MS, FTIR, XPS, SEM, etc
  • An aptitude to work as an active team member, learning new things, and a keen eye for improving cell performance
  • Self-taught, self-motivated and work as a team in a competitive environment
  • Ability to advance multiple projects in a fast-paced multidisciplinary environment

Preferred Qualifications

  • PhD or MS in materials science, chemistry, or chemical engineering
  • Experience with DOE (Design of Experiments) methods and Python software
  • Expertise in one or more advanced analytical techniques
  • Knowledge of advanced electrolyte systems such as hybrid or solid state

Physical Requirements

  • Must be able to lift 50 lbs.
  • Be able to work in a lab standing up to 8 hours each day.

Compensations Range

The expected base salary range for this position is between

$115,400.00 – $173,200.00

The level of pay within the range will depend on a variety of job-related factors that may include location, relevant prior experience and/or education, or particular skills and expertise.

The level of pay within the range will depend on a variety of job-related factors that may include location, relevant prior experience and/or education, or particular skills and expertise. New hires joining the company tend to be paid within the starting base pay range noted above, with opportunities to increase pay over time based on development of additional skills, competencies, and company-specific knowledge.

In addition to base pay this position is eligible for tier based bonus and equity, healthcare, dental, vision, corporate discounts, paid holidays, PTO and sick time, 401K, employee relocation plan (if applicable)
