Role Description

This is a full-time on-site role as a Solar Technician at CES located in the Halifax, VA area. The Solar Maintenance Technician role is central to CES’ mission to provide reliable services for renewable assets. CES relies on its Solar Technicians to perform high quality routine and corrective work on solar power plants, enabling plants to perform at maximum efficiency. CES focuses on training and career development so that its technicians are seen by customers as among the most technically advanced in the industry. In this role, you’ll travel in and out of state regularly and work with other CES technicians to provide a best-in-class service offering to our customers. This role will report directly to a Lead Operator on site, and therefore candidates without solar experience will be considered.

Key Responsibilities

  • Foster and drive a strong safety culture, participating in toolbox talks and behavioral observations to ensure all staff and subcontractors understand their role in complying with applicable safety standards and best practices.
  • Perform routine maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair work on mechanical and electrical components of solar power plants.
  • Inspect data and adjust settings on computerized devices installed at solar power plants.
  • Follow standard operating procedures and direction from supervisor at all times, while not hesitating to stop work and request clarification if any action seems unsafe.
  • Follow lockout/tagout procedures at all times and do not interfere with lockout/tagout devices affixed by others.
  • Create excellent work order documentation (including photos where applicable) of all work performed, challenges encountered, parts used, suspected root cause, and any other notable conditions observed while on site. This will done via daily reports and as well as a suite of other project management tools.
  • Support and foster a culture in which every individual on-site is empowered and encouraged to stop the job when not comfortable with the order of operations or task at hand.
  • Perform quality assurance inspections on newly onboarded solar sites and prepare reports detailing any deviations from drawing sets, electrical code, or industry best practices.
  • Consistently demonstrate good housekeeping practices, keeping work areas clean and properly disposing of any debris upon task completion.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Understanding of basic electric principles.
  • Experience working safely with hand tools and performing mechanical troubleshooting or repair work.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and Google Suite applications, and capability to learn new software programs quickly with minimal formal training.
  • 20/40 vision with or without corrective lenses.
  • Ability to work outdoors, including in cold temperatures and in hot temperatures while wearing arc flash protective suits.
  • Ability to climb stairs and ladders necessary to access rooftop equipment.
  • Ability to distinguish colors.
  • Ability to lift 50 pounds overhead.
  • Ability to wear standard required personal protective equipment.
  • Ability to be on call during assigned evening and weekend hours and respond to any urgent work orders that may arise during on call time.
  • Valid driver’s license and clean driving record.
  • Ability to work well in a team
