Job Description

Hypower is currently seeking a Solar Superintendent to join our team.

The Superintendent is one of the most important employees in the overall operation of the company. He or she is responsible for scheduling, monitoring, and controlling the day-to-day execution of the work, progress, and performance of the project. The Superintendent is also responsible for the administration and control of all aspects of the Hypower site-specific Safety and compliance objectives. The Superintendent reports to the General or Project Superintendent and works directly with the Project Manager responsible for the current project for which he or she is assigned.

Jobsite Control

  • Coordinate, implement, and update the Project Baseline schedule in conjunction with the General or Project Superintendent and the Project Manager.
  • Must Know the three disciplines of a solar construction site, (Civil, Mechanical, Electrical).
  • Maintain the established Safety Plan throughout construction.
  • Provide information as required to field personnel, subcontractors, management support staff (including Purchasing), and vendors.
  • Supervise field site mobilization, temporary power vaults, and office trailer set-up.
  • Plan and supervise activities – includes determining the method of construction, manpower levels, material quantities, equipment needs and usage, security of materials tools and equipment, work schedule, manpower estimates, and labor budgets.
  • Manage field site administration (including work documentation, T&M work orders, subcontractor management, project process documentation, and workforce productivity).
  • Oversee personnel administration (field staff), including daily timesheets, performance reviews, attendance, and time off requests.
  • Oversee construction and subcontractors directs and supervises field staff in accordance with project plan and schedule compliance.
  • Maintain and update on a DAILY basis as-builts for the project.
  • Delegate responsibility and assure its proper completion.
  • Assist in resolving construction problems (lack of productivity, work interfaces, etc.).
  • Assist the General or Project Superintendent and Project Manager with Project Closeout Schedule.

Documentation and Meetings

  • Provide Progress Reports with Three-Week Look-Ahead Schedule to the Project Manager and field staff.
  • Provide Project manager with daily site information (Daily Job Diary), including electrical work in progress, job site project progress, job site issues, receiving packing slips for material received, Hypower, and rental equipment utilization.
  • Conduct weekly Safety and job site information meetings with field staff and assigned subcontractors.
  • Attend GC or Owners meetings as required.
  • Maintain quality standards to ensure the project construction conforms to the contract documents and that the subcontractors and vendors performance is acceptable
  • Prepare closeout documents (Punch Lists, As-Builts, Work Lists, warranties, demobilization commissioning).

Field Obligations In many instances, the Superintendent is a hands-on Supervisor that is required to assist in most field installations.

  • Splices and terminates medium voltage wires using a variety of hand tools; make underground waterproof splices.
  • Connects wires to plug solar modules, switches, controls, motors, panels, and switchboards.
  • Test installations to check and ensure continuity of the circuit, perform I-V curve measurements, and the compatibility and safety of all components using testing equipment such as ohmmeter, amp meter, voltmeter, I-V curve tracer, etc.
  • Conduct lockout/tag-out procedures.
  • Work around live medium or high voltage circuits, combiners, inverters, transformers, and switchgear.
  • Inspects and evaluates electrical equipment to ensure that it operates efficiently and safely determines whether equipment and new installations meet requirements of the National Electrical Code.
  • Measures, cuts, bends, threads, assembles, and installs electrical conduit, combiner boxes, switches, and switchboards using hand tools and such special equipment as mechanical drills, cutters, benders, and threaders.
  • Install direct buried wires or pulls wire through conduits.
  • Assigns work to lower-level electricians, apprentices, and/or helpers.
  • Provides instruction and training in the proper methods and processes necessary to carry out electrician assignments.
  • Work and operate vehicles and/or heavy equipment (i.e., backhoe, Excavators, Skid steer, trenchers, etc.)
  • Ensure personal protective equipment for self and crew is available and being used as required at all times.

Working Conditions

  • The job requires working in all elements, depending on job location, time of year, heat, cold, rain, snow, and mud.
  • The job requires employee to have required personal tools at all times.
  • Climbing up and down ladders.
  • Working from various heights.
  • Continuous Kneeling.
  • Entering underground excavations, manholes, and crawl spaces.
  • Able to pull wire.
  • Able to lift over 50 lbs.
  • Wear personal protective equipment as required in Safety Handbook.
  • Able to work 40 hours per week, overtime as required, night shifts; work out of town if needed.

Qualifications

  • Must prioritize safety before all else and lead by example; must have a minimum of OSHA30.
  • Electrical field installation experience within a solar plant.
  • Self-Perform Solar Construction Experience is highly preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to supervise 50 or more employees.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of, reading, interpreting, and working with Electrical design drawings and specifications.
  • 4-5 years previous experience as a General Supervisor or 3 Years as an Electrical Superintendent within a solar plant.
