Position Summary

The O&M Technician will be responsible for repairing and maintaining already installed solar installations. This position is an hourly role that requires working outside in extreme environments, working at heights, and prolonged periods of repetitious duties including lifting, bending, and standing for long periods. All O&M Technicians must be able to perform the essential functions as outlined in this document.

Essential Functions

  • Provide maintenance service to previously installed systems

o Includes warranty (3 months after an installation receives permission to operate), and billable service

o Communicate effectively with the customer and manage their expectations

o Troubleshoot non-working solar equipment (modules, optimizers, inverters, etc.) using a variety of techniques and strategies

o Contact technical support for solar equipment replacement and troubleshooting if a resolution cannot be achieved otherwise

o Replace defective equipment in a timely and professional manner

  • Check job sites for potential hazards; understand and adhere to all applicable safety rules, regulations, practices, procedures, and determine appropriate PPE and other safety equipment for job tasks
  • Ensure compliance with the National Electrical Code, NFPA 70E Standard for Electrical Safety in the Workplace, Site Specific Safety Plans, and other applicable laws, codes, regulations, and industry standards
  • Review company provided weekly toolbox talks and attend quarterly safety meetings
  • Become knowledgeable of and follow Tiger Solar Installer Manual and the SOP’s contained within
  • Organize work assignments and set priorities
  • Provide excellent customer service
  • Maintain vehicle organization and keep good stock of typical job materials on vehicles and in shop as needed
  • Participate in required trainings, old and new, for specific solar equipment commissioning

Requirements:

Qualifications, Experience, Knowledge, and Skills

  • The ideal candidate will have at least 3 years experience in the solar industry, 1 year of solar specific troubleshooting and maintenance experience. 3 years of construction experience with 1 year of solar installation, and a strong grasp on electrical troubleshooting techniques will also be considered.
  • Equipment and Instrument use for commissioning, testing, and troubleshooting electrical and IT related systems including but not limited to:

o Digital Multimeter, ammeter, voltmeter,

o Megohmmeter

o Curve tracer

o Infrared imaging tools

o Digital thermometer

  • Concepts, materials, and terminology related to Photovoltaic Electric systems
  • Federal and local requirements pertaining to Photovoltaic Electric systems
  • Heavy equipment use depending on the required task
  • Best practices for roofing, mechanical fastening, electrical bonding and termination, trenching and excavation, and concrete
  • Criminal/civil background check, and motor vehicle records search will be required in compliance with any applicable laws and regulations
  • Clear understanding and ability to enthusiastically promote safe workplace practices and procedure
  • Demonstrated ability to operate in a manner consistent with Tiger Solars organizational policies, procedures, and culture
  • Safely and effectively using and maintaining tools and equipment related to the work
  • Photo documentation of completed and in-progress jobs
  • Maintaining effective communication and working relationships with internal and external stakeholders
  • Preparing clear written or verbal reports for project updates
  • Contributing to the accomplishment of work group goals, objectives, and activities
  • Estimating materials, parts, labor and equipment needed to complete assignments
  • Reading, interpreting, and following manuals, specifications, electrical drawings, and design packs for the installation of electrical equipment
  • Conduit bending
  • Wire pulling, testing and termination
  • Adapting to new and emerging technologies

Physical Demands and Work Environment

  • Lift and carry heavy items weighing up to 50 pounds
  • Stand, kneel, bend, stoop, moving in and around confined and cluttered places, and uneven areas, see and hear naturally or with correction
  • Requires repetitive movement, using hands to handle, control, or feel objects, tools or controls according to a set procedure Climb and maintain balance on steel framework, stairs, ladders and scaffolds
  • Work up to 4, 10-hour shifts doing hard physical labor in various temperature extremes and other outdoor conditions
  • Typical construction site environment that may expose candidate to sounds and noise levels that are distracting or uncomfortable
  • Requires working in cramped workspaces and getting into awkward positions
  • Requires working in very hot (above 90 F degrees) or very cold (below 32F degrees) temperatures and exposure to inclement weather such as dust, wind, snow, rain, etc.
  • Requires working in extremely bright or poor lighting conditions
  • Work around hazardous equipment
  • Requires exposure to high places
  • Periodic travel throughout the region for up to a week at a time
