Orenda is on a mission to make the grid more efficient with batteries and software. We build and operate energy storage projects in dense urban environments to bridge the gap between renewables and electricity consumption.
Orenda Asset Management is developing the software and hardware platform to operate these projects. We use ML to forecast electricity markets and decision algorithms to allocate energy optimally. Our cloud platform connects to on-site energy controls systems to monitor and manage our fleets.

Role
Orenda is looking to hire a software engineer to join our Asset Management founding team. This individual will own the analytics and observability portion of our software platform, as well as contribute to all facets of energy storage operations. If you are interested in taking ownership of your work at a leading start-up in a rapidly growing industry, this position is for you.
What You’ll Do
- Own the analytics portion of the platform. You will be in charge of generating real-time insights into energy storage system performance and revenue.
- Design, implement, and manage cloud architectures.
- Build and deploy performant data pipelines for our IoT assets and ML models.
- Develop live dashboards with reporting capabilities for financial backers and utilities.
- Assist, as a critical team member, to the overall operations of a $MM energy storage portfolio.
- Learn about energy markets, batteries, and controls systems.
- Work closely with energy sector experts in a collaborative, fast-paced environment.
Requirements
- Excellent problem solver with an affinity for interesting and difficult problems and the follow-through to solve them
- 3+ years of relevant industry experience
- BS or MS in Computer Science or related field
- 2+ years experience writing clean, maintainable Python code in production environments
- Previous work with streaming engines/frameworks (Kafka, Flink, Spark, Beam, etc.)
- Hands-on experience building microservices from scratch in a cloud computing environment
- Intrinsically motivated by the prospect of being at the cutting edge of the energy industry and will work hard to get there
- Keen attention to detail. You do not need someone to inspect your work.
- Relentlessly positive attitude, strong work ethic, and sense of humor
Bonus Points
- Experience in renewable energy and/or energy storage
- SCADA, hardware, or networking know-how
- Experience with Terraform
- Familiarity with time-series forecasting

Additional Information
- Compensation: $100,000 – $150,000 target salary range plus bonus and incentive stock options. For the right candidate, we are flexible.

- This role is based in NYC; there is no flexibility for remote work – we come to our Dumbo, Brooklyn office every day.
