Role Description

The Test Infrastructure team at Form Energy is hiring a Sr. Test Equipment Design Engineer (Electrical) for our Test Infrastructure team in Berkeley, CA. Reporting to the Manager of Test Infrastructure (CA), this role works collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team to deliver battery test systems that enable the development of Form Energys multi-day batteries. You will interface with partner teams across the organization to understand functional requirements and deliver robust solutions.

What you’ll do:

  • Lead the electrical and electromechanical design of Form Energys battery test systems, including power distribution, harnessing, and data collection.

  • Create robust documentation for electrical subsystems including 2D schematics and 3D CAD modeling for electrical panels, PCBs, etc.

  • Contribute to component selection and oversee the integration of electrical systems with test equipment, ensuring correct wiring and functionality of components. Troubleshoot and resolve issues to maintain system reliability and efficiency.

  • Perform engineering analyses such as power consumption, circuit protection, conductor sizing, component level FMEAs, etc.

  • Collaborate on the design/development of custom liquid-handling, electromechanical and electrical systems in support of test stand improvements and simplification.

  • Stay abreast of industry trends and technological advancements. Propose and drive improvements in electrical design to maintain cutting-edge performance and reliability.

  • Work closely with engineers, technicians, and project managers to support the deployment and maintenance of test systems. Provide technical support and training to ensure effective use of battery systems.

What you’ll bring:

  • Degree in electrical engineering, electronics, or related field and 3-5 years of experience with test systems.

  • Proven experience in designing and developing electrical systems, with a strong focus on power distribution, harnessing and data collection.

  • Hands-on expertise with electrical panel design to UL508A standards, Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs), and PID control systems.

  • Proficiency in eCAD packages like AutoCAD Electrical or RapidHarness, demonstrating the ability to create and manage complex electrical and mechanical designs.

  • Familiarity with mCAD packages such as Solidworks or NX

  • Experience working with data acquisition systems (Keysight, National Instruments, etc.)

  • Experience working with scripted programming languages like Python

  • Experience in the utilization and development of custom PLC/HMI systems.

  • Experience designing test equipment for use in medium- to high-volume design validation and/or manufacturing environments.

  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills, with the ability to address and resolve issues related to control systems and automation components.

  • Excellent collaboration skills, with a track record of working effectively with cross-functional teams, engineers, technicians, and project managers to support system deployment and maintenance.

Compensation Range: $128.7K – $159.7K
