Position Scope
SES has an opening for a Senior Scientist, Seperator Analysis and Materials Characterization who is passionate about mobile energy storage and is an expert on Material characterization. The successful candidate is committed and dedicated, responsible, focused, detail-oriented, able to adjust in a fast-paced working environment, collaborate well with other staff members with a shared vision and demonstrate excellent organizational communication skills.
This position will be based in our Woburn, MA location.
Responsibilities
- Lead materials characterization and validation activities, with special focus on separator materials for lithium metal battery systems.
- Procure analytical equipment as and when needed with a keen focus on enhancing characterization capabilities and developing new characterization methods.
- Analysis of chemical, physical, and thermal properties of all battery materials and understand their interactions with each other, developing a deep understanding of materials impact on cell safety and performance.
- Drive research on development of new separators. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate findings into product development and improvement processes.
- Perform critical interpretation of analytical data; analyze information to drive key understanding.
- Develop a fundamental understanding of separator properties as related to Li-metal anode cell performance and safety.
Qualifications
- Doctorate in chemistry, chemical engineering, materials science, or related fields with 5+ years of industrial/academic experience.
- Expertise and experience in operating and maintaining analytical instruments including but not limited to GC, FTIR, UV-Vis, DSC, TGA, SEM, XPS, Raman, and NMR.
- Experience working with moisture sensitive materials in a glovebox or dry room.
- Experience in electrochemistry, specifically on LIB or LMB.
- Ability to analyze data and draw deeper conclusions from analytical data.
- An ability to communicate new concepts and draw insight from discussions with coworkers.
- Demonstrable track record of learning new technologies quickly and using your skillset to have a tangible impact in a short time frame.
- A technical leader with the ability to positively influence peers and bring the team together.
