The Role

We are growing our renewable energy team in the United States to develop and build our pipeline of utility scale renewable energy projects that we intends to own and operate.

We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Renewable Project Finance Associate to lead financial modeling and structuring on utility-scale renewable energy projects. The primary responsibilities of this position are preparing financial models for raising tax equity, debt financing, and procuring the optimal post-IRA structured finance options for utility-scale renewables and evaluating potential M&A opportunities in both the renewable energy and traditional thermal power sectors. The Associate will work closely with senior team members to structure, execute, and manage complex financing solutions for renewable and traditional energy projects in the United States and globally.

The Associate will assist the team in vetting inputs to financial models, build virtual data rooms, managing diligence processes, preparing marking material and confidential information memoranda, satisfying conditions precedent to financial closings, and supporting the team through all stages of the capital raising process.

The preferred candidate has 2-4 years of utility-scale solar, storage, wind or thermal power finance experience working with M&A evaluations; tax equity and debt financings; and, a significant grasp of the IRA. Experience working directly with capital providers is a plus.

Key Responsibilities Include:

  • Develop and maintain detailed financial models for renewable energy projects (including solar, wind, battery, and other clean energy technologies) and traditional thermal energy projects (including natural gas and coal fired technologies)
  • Develop M&A models for assessing acquisition targets including renewable energy projects and traditional thermal energy projects (with potential to transition thermal energy projects to renewable energy projects as part of the energy transition)
  • Develop and maintain consolidation models of a portfolio of projects to support upper tier financing arrangements
  • Conduct sensitivity analyses and scenario planning to assess project viability and risk
  • Provide financial analysis and support for investment decisions, including internal and external presentations
  • Participate in the structuring, negotiation, and execution of project finance transactions
  • Conduct due diligence, including financial, technical, legal, and market aspects of projects
  • Prepare marketing materials including confidential information memoranda for presentation to third parties
  • Provide data and coordinate with appraiser, independent engineer, insurance, transmission consultants, and other third parties on project financings with a focus on data quality and consistency across all materials.
  • Manage debt compliance matters and execute construction draws, interest and principal payments.
  • Liaise with lenders, ratings agencies, and key commercial counterparties during construction and operations
  • Assist in evaluation and execution of interest rate hedging transactions.
  • Stay informed about market trends, regulatory developments, and financing structures relevant to the renewable energy industry
  • Ensure compliance with internal policies, regulatory requirements, and financing agreements throughout the project lifecycle
  • Track budget to actual of projects during development, construction, and operations

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in finance, Economics, Business, or a related field. MBA or relevant advanced degree is a plus
  • Some experience in project finance, renewable energy, investment banking, major IPP or utility, or a related field. (E.g., 2-4 years total)
  • Strong proficiency in financial modelling and analysis, with advanced Excel skills
  • Knowledge of project finance structures, tax equity, lending practices, and capital markets
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and written and oral communication skills.
  • Independent preparation of PowerPoint presentations
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment
  • Able to communicate analysis results in an actionable and insightful manner
