Job Description

NOVI Energy is an energy infrastructure developer dedicated to delivering innovative and sustainable energy solutions in the U.S. and across the globe. Our current development portfolio includes utility-scale solar, baseload and peaking gas power plants, and nuclear small modular reactor projects where we are partnering with local communities to provide outcomes that are the right fit and to the benefit of affected residents. As a complete development team, we define the projects both commercially and technically, complete permitting activities, establish required financing, then take them through construction and into operations.

We also provide energy consulting services for government entities, private companies, and utilities within U.S. and for international markets. Our team of professionals supports clients across multiple areas, including energy technology, technical analysis and feasibility, economic reviews and detailed pro forma financial analysis, and project development.

Position Summary

As a Senior Mechanical Engineer with NOVI Energy, you will provide oversight, management, and direct input for the development of energy-related projects and various consulting products. You will mentor a team of junior engineers and support senior management in critical decision making relative to the company’s strategy and direction. 

The position is based in our office in Novi, Michigan.

Occasional domestic and international travel (~ 10%) is required to support our projects and consulting assignments.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Lead and manage engineering projects related to energy development.
  • Design, analyze, and optimize mechanical systems for energy production, storage, and distribution.
  • Develop and review engineering designs, specifications, and technical reports.
  • Ensure compliance with industry standards, regulations, and safety protocols.
  • Mentor and guide junior engineers.
  • Interface directly with clients, local government officials, and affected residents.
  • Support permitting and regulatory approvals.
  • Conduct feasibility studies and risk assessments for new energy projects.
  • Coordinate with supporting engineering consultants and contractors.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including other engineers, project managers, and environmental specialists.
  • Evaluate product suppliers and technologies.
  • Provide technical oversight of project EPC Contractors through construction phase.
  • Develop and monitor budgets, schedules, and project timelines.
  • Provide technical consulting services for energy projects to government agencies and other clients.
  • Stay current with advancements in mechanical engineering and renewable energy technologies.
  • Support the development of project proposals.
  • Perform related work as required. Duties and responsibilities may be added, omitted, or modified at any time.

Candidate Qualifications

Required:                                                          

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
  • 5 to 12 years of relevant work experience.
  • Experience within the energy industry – power generation, renewable energy, and energy storage systems.
  • Strong understanding of mechanical design principles, thermodynamics, and fluid mechanics.
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD and other engineering drawing tools.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong Project Management experience
  • Strong oral/written communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent presentation skills.
  • Strong mentoring and training skills.
  • Basic understanding of economics and financial analysis.
  • Eligible to work in United States.

Preferred:

  • Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred.
  • Project management experience preferred.

Physical Demands and Work Environment

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk, hear and view and create documents. The employee frequently is required to stand; walk; use hands to grasp, handle, or feel; and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to stoop, kneel, or crouch. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move items of light to heavy weights. 

While performing the duties of this job, the employee typically works in a business office setting and occasionally out in the field. During field activities, the employee may be exposed to outside weather conditions, near moving mechanical parts and/or machinery. The employee is occasionally exposed to high, precarious places, or confined spaces and fumes or airborne particles. The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet in the office and may become loud in field situations.
