Description Your role at GEI. GEI’s is seeking a motivated & experienced Senior Geotechnical / Geothermal Engineer and Project Manager to lead and execute geothermal and geotechnical engineering projects throughout the eastern US. Work will include but not be limited to preparing feasibility studies, geothermal wellfield designs, specification writing, construction oversight and leading GEI’s market sector effort in ground source heating and cooling applications for decarbonization projects involving schools, colleges and universities, new building construction and district scale systems. Clients include federal, state, and municipal governments, private sector commercial buildings, and public agencies and utilities. GEI has flexible work options office policy. Office location could be in one of our Boston Area offices (Woburn, MA and Franklin, MA), and is open to GEI’s other northeast office locations, including Portland, ME, Glastonbury, CT, Huntington Station, NY, New York City, NY, Bloomfield, NJ, Rhode Island, and New Hampshire.

Essential Responsibilities & Duties

  • Provide direction and support for the marketing and proposal development for geothermal projects.
  • Oversee the assessment of geothermal test wells and geothermal wellfield designs and piping layouts.
  • Coordinate with other team members including outside HVAC and MEP engineers and contractors in developing full-scale design and the implementation of geothermal well fields.
  • Provide direction and oversight for ground source heating and cooling modeling using applicable software.
  • Assist in the advancement of best practices for modeling and project workflows.
  • Assist in training and mentoring entry and mid-level staff.
  • Oversee production, manage staff, and provide Quality Reviews on Engineering Drawings and Documents prepared for clients.
  • Collaborate with GEI Staff in the Boston Area and East Region Offices.

Minimum Qualifications

  • B.S. in Civil Engineering or other relevant degree.
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience with 5 years’ experience working on geothermal projects.
  • Ability to work in a team environment and meet deadlines.
  • Excellent verbal andwritten communication skills.
  • Driver’s License

Preferred Qualifications (Highly Qualified)

  • M.S. or Ph.D. in Civil Engineering with emphasis in Geotechnical Engineering or relevant degree(s).
  • Registration as Professional Engineer (P.E.) in one or more northeastern states or the ability to obtain within 18 months of date of hire.
  • Expert in use of geothermal modeling software.
  • Demonstrated leader in the field of geothermal design and construction including presenting at conferences, author, or co-authors of papers.
  • Related geotechnical experience highly desirable, e.g., deep foundations, thermal piles, etc.
  • Experience at public meetings, making presentations to stakeholder groups, permitting of deep wells, and construction aspects.
  • Experience as Project Manager.
