ERSG is currently looking for a Senior Main Electrical Equipment (MEQ) Engineer for a large offshore wind developer in Boston, MA.

Position Overview:

Belonging to the Main Electrical Equipment (MEQ) Package and reporting to the MEQ Package Manager, the Senior MEQ Manager will be responsible for specification of Main Electrical equipment technical requirements, tendering, negotiating, and managing contracts, planning, and implementing delivery of tasks associated interfaces, defining company and business engineering standards and technical acceptance criteria, and ensuring quality, best practices and excellent H&SE performance are applied. The role will require an expert in EHV/HV equipment related to offshore wind farms, defining requirements and activities related to the offshore wind project pipeline.

The Senior MEQ Engineer will be a recognized expert in their field and take leadership within and out with the business to develop and set the standards for how the business specifies, procures, transports, installs and commissions EHV/HV Electrical Equipment. The individual will be working as part of a global business with activities in many countries across Europe and the rest of the world. The position may require travel to various locations in the US and overseas and the individual should be capable of managing teams working at different project locations.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage the delivery of MEQ assets to Offshore Wind Projects for the offshore wind developer.
  • Responsible for EHV/HV equipment specification and design activities of the offshore windfarm projects, providing key engineering advice, assessment, and recommendations to ensure delivery of projects within time, to budget and quality following the highest industry practice and observing the maximum respect for Health, Safety, and the Environment to ensure regulatory and legal compliance.
  • Provide expert advice on engineering strategies / risk levels relevant to a multi-million-dollar work package, to ensure that cost effective technical solutions are identified, fully evaluated and the risk profile is fully understood by the project.
  • Ensure that all assessment, advice, and recommendations are fully documented in accordance with all internal procedures and industry best practice, and that sufficient technical and commercial due diligence (whether internal or external) exists to support those business decisions.
  • Ensure that health and safety and environmental requirements are fully considered and adhered to in design to ensure compliance with legislation and industry best practice.
  • Be fully aware, informed and up to date of the latest technical developments related to EHV/HV electrical equipment and identify and assess suitable new that has the potential activities to reduce cost and risk or improve safety.
  • Work with other centers of technical excellence across the Iberdrola group to support synergistic activities and incorporate lessons learned.
  • Work with key suppliers and stakeholders in the field, for example software vendors, specialist consultants, academia, and innovation organizations to develop and understand the leading-edge solutions.
  • Ensure lessons learnt regarding offshore wind farm development and construction are captured and shared across the different projects (large work packages). Establish the right mechanisms for this process and ensure that the engineering team implements them to enhance business value.

Skills, Knowledge & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering or similar
  • At least 5 years of experience in similar HV/EHV senior/lead engineering roles, managing the delivery of high value equipment supply contracts, preferably in offshore wind, or onshore renewables and networks.
  • Offshore experience preferred.
  • Knowledge and experience of EHV/HV electrical equipment
  • Knowledge and experience of offshore wind farm grid connections
  • Experience of engineering design and delivery.
  • Understanding of electromechanical drawings and documents.
  • Analytical with attention to detail
  • Project, contract, and time management, with ability to complete projects and keep to deadlines.
  • Numerical skills and ability to quantify the costs of potential incidents.
