Job Description Idaho Laboratory is hiring a Senior Electric Vehicle Charging Infrastructure Engineer to work in our Energy Storage and Electric Transportation Department. Our team works a 9×80 schedule located out of our Idaho Falls)) facility with every other Friday off. Remote or Hybrid work opportunities may be available for this position. As a Senior Electric Vehicle Charging Infrastructure Engineer in the Energy Storage and Electric Transportation Department at Idaho Laboratory, you will lead research and industry engagement activities related to the development and deployment of advanced electric vehicle (EV) charging technologies. Your work will directly contribute to the creation of a EV charging network that serves all forms of electric vehicles and is convenient, affordable, reliable, and equitable. Responsibilities Include: Lead efforts to understand how vehicle electrification impacts grid performance, system reliability and resiliency. This includes how vehicles fit within the broad integrated energy system. You will bring an understanding of electric vehicle supply equipment (EVSE), relevant codes and standards and EV technology. Mentor junior researchers and other staff. Demonstrate the ability to regularly produce high-quality publications, including peer-reviewed journal articles, presentations, or technical reports. Establish and maintain configuration management of assigned system(s) while maintaining existing drawings and databases. Develop functional and operation requirements, system design descriptions, and test procedures for equipment. Collaborate with other engineers, planners, operations personnel, and other partners to ensure the proper execution of testing activities. Provide first order data analysis and report test status to appropriate team members. Contribute to the functionality of test equipment and support procurement activities in acquiring equipment, spare parts, or other systems for plant modifications and research systems. Evaluate and assess system/equipment performance and history to improve efficiency and reliability. Create design of experiments including data acquisition, data collection in laboratory, and appropriate data reduction as dictated by project needs. Analyze experimental results. May direct others or work directly with equipment vendors to diagnose and repair malfunctions and design and specify new equipment to meet customer requirements.Qualifications: Minimum Requirements: EX4 – Master’s and 6 years of experience. Ph. D and 4 years of experience. EX5 – Master’s and 8 years of experience. Ph. D and 6 years of experience. Advanced degree in Electrical Engineering or directly related field from an ABET-accredited institution. Experience in R&D, systems engineering, and electric vehicle charging infrastructure Diagnostic experience with controller area networks. Familiarity with electrical engineering, instrumentation and control, and software systems applicable to the design and operation of experimental processes. The Ideal candidate will have the below. Experience using design and analysis programs such as ORCAD, CAD, MatLab, Labview, PowerWorld, and/or RTDS. Experience conducting experiments with electrical equipment. Experience working with high-risk equipment, safety requirements, and procedures. Job Information:
  • The pay range for this position is: Level 4 ($91,008 – $186,588) / Level 5 $109,260-$223,908) At Idaho Laboratory compensation decisions are determined using factors such as education, relevant experience, and other credentials.
