Director or Senior Director of Development – Western Region

Job Overview:

Lead and manage strategy and project development activities in the Western region, overseeing assets and engaging with landowners, industry vendors, clients, stakeholders, and sponsors. Drive project conversions by managing project managers, associates, consultants, timelines, budgets, interconnection applications, permitting, and marketing of renewable energy projects.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Strategic Participation: Engage in business growth and strategy sessions to foster company and culture development.
  • Subject Matter Expertise: Provide strategic recommendations on RTO and utility policy to support an expanding renewable energy project pipeline.
  • Project Management: Oversee the evaluation, management, and monetization of development activities and assets.
  • Pipeline Development: Identify and prioritize project opportunities based on market trends and financial modeling.
  • Asset Conversion: Secure leases, permits, and interconnection studies to convert project opportunities into development assets.
  • Client & Vendor Management: Handle research, communications, scheduling, and negotiations with clients and vendors.
  • Vendor Oversight: Manage specialized project development vendors, including environmental, transmission, legal, and engineering consultants.
  • Budget Management: Develop and manage project and development budgets.
  • Travel Requirements: Travel up to 25% for market, project site, and partner meetings as needed.
  • Market Research: Investigate and structure entry into new markets and verticals.
  • Team Engagement: Collaborate effectively to advance projects and address daily uncertainties.
  • Ethical Decision-Making: Make responsible decisions regarding company funds and resources.
  • Documentation Management: Maintain CRM, documentation, and project pipeline reporting.
  • Team Leadership: Manage junior employees, providing coaching, growth opportunities, and support.
  • Cultural Leadership: Foster a positive company culture, ensuring it remains a great workplace.

Qualifications:

  • Strong experience in the development of utility-scale wind, solar and/or energy storage
  • Experienced in WECC is strongly preferred.
  • Management: Experience leading teams in the development of renewable energy projects.
