Our client is leader in renewable energy, committed to delivering sustainable energy solutions.

They are seeking a Senior Director of Project Development who will play a critical role in ensuring that distributed solar, storage and community solar projects are planned, sited, permitted, and prepared for construction in alignment with their organizational goals.

Role Overview: The Senior Director of Project Development will lead the development and greenfield land teams, responsible for managing the end-to-end process of distributed solar, storage and community solar. This includes overseeing the development of community solar, DG solar, solar+storage and storage assets from early stages through to shovel ready . This role involves close collaboration with internal teams and external stakeholders to ensure project success, from land acquisition to permitting, and aligning with broader strategic goals.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage the Project Development Team, including direct reports, to efficiently build and grow the project pipeline, ensuring successful delivery to notice to proceed (NTP).
  • Drive process improvements and contribute to the development and implementation of the team’s strategy, working closely with senior leadership across the organization.
  • Oversee internal and external teams of experts managing land acquisition, environmental permitting, interconnection, real estate, and project design.
  • Provide leadership and mentorship to the development team, supporting day-to-day decision-making and long-term career growth.
  • Represent them in communications with customers, landowners, and local/state stakeholders throughout the development process, including attending community and industry events.
  • Collaborate with the Business Development team on M&A opportunities, ensuring smooth transitions to the project development phase.
  • Lead project and market reviews for management committee, including quarterly pipeline reviews.
  • Support energy offtake, project financing, and M&A discussions, including leading due diligence activities.
  • Ensure projects meet schedule, budget, and performance targets.
  • Represent them at national renewable energy events, serving as a speaker, panelist, or thought leader.
  • Perform additional tasks as assigned.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Business, Environmental Sciences, Economics, or related field (preferred).
  • At least 10 years of experience in renewable energy development, with specific experience in distributed (DG) solar, community solar, distributed generation or storage.
  • Proven track record in leading renewable energy projects from development through financing.
  • Expertise in managing land easements, leases, and title curative processes.
  • Strong problem-solving skills, with the ability to navigate complex project development and commercial negotiations.
  • Experience working in distributed or community solar project development is required.
  • Strong understanding of renewable energy market trends and solar development processes.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to present complex ideas to a variety of stakeholders, including third-party developers, government officials, and corporate leaders.
  • Proficiency in MS Excel, Word, PowerPoint, with familiarity in CRM tools being a plus.

Additional Information:

  • Must be eligible to work in the U.S. without sponsorship.
  • Ability to travel up to 50% of the time, including visits to remote project locations.
