Senior Director, BESS Commercialization

As the Senior Director, you will take the lead on our BESS Commercialization efforts, you’ll play a crucial role in shaping the delivery of Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) projects. Working directly with market leads and senior management, you’ll ensure that project progression aligns with our organization’s portfolio-level objectives and strategic goals. This role is a commercial leadership position within the business, facilitating knowledge sharing between regions and supporting the growth of this exciting development arm.

Responsibilities

• Define Regional Strategy: Collaborate with regional leadership, country heads, and key functional leads to define Lightsource bp’s regional BESS strategy and portfolio objectives.
• Lead Commercialization Efforts: Drive BESS business commercialization for standalone projects and support hybrid commercial opportunities.
• Team Management: Manage a team of analytical and technical resources to support the BESS business in the US.
• Alignment and Support: Engage across the organization to build alignment and support for the BESS strategic direction.
• Project Prioritization: Assist country heads in defining, tracking, and presenting project priorities aligned with the agreed strategy.
• Assure Project Progression: Provide functional assurance at key project gatekeeping points to ensure alignment with BESS portfolio objectives.
• Market Insights: Monitor market and industry trends, pricing, and competitor activities, including regulatory/financial incentives and structured financing transactions.
• Knowledge Sharing: Facilitate knowledge sharing and lessons learned between regions through communities of practice and other platforms.
• Optimize Offerings: Support teams in optimizing Lightsource bp offerings for BESS offtake opportunities and tenders.

Qualifications

Technical & Commercial Skills

• Structuring of storage contracts
• Strong analytical/financial knowledge for modeling storage revenue scenarios
• Deep understanding of all phases of BESS development
• Commercial acumen in structuring BESS projects and revenue pathways
• Portfolio-level thinking
