The Senior Database Engineer role is to design, govern and sustain the collective database environment of LRE and its associated Data Warehouse and Lake. Assisting with the evaluation and selection of all relevant infrastructure components, such as software, hardware, big data components, and networking capabilities; as well as the installation, monitoring, maintenance and/or performance tuning of our production databases, while ensuring high levels of data availability. This individual is also responsible for developing, implementing, and overseeing database policies and procedures to ensure the integrity and availability of databases and their accompanying software. The Senior Database Engineer role is to design, develop, test, deploy and maintain relevant software programs and/or interconnected applications. Working among a PowerBI environment with a heavy emphasis on consolidated data (WarehouseData Lake) as this role is expected to liaise interdepartmentally and ensure/enable accurate reporting and dashboarding as necessary.
Responsibilities:

Create models for new database development and/or changes to existing ones, including proposals / solutions for any deficiencies found in the environment.

Install and configure relevant network components to ensure database access as well as database consistency and integrity.

Respond to and resolve database access and performance issues.

Monitor database system details within the database, including stored procedures and execution time, and implement efficiency improvements.

Monitor, optimize and allocate physical data storage for database systems.

Plan and coordinate data migrations between systems.

Develop, implement, and maintain change control and testing processes for modifications to databases.

Create, or support creation of, required reports in response to business user needs.

Perform database transaction and security audits.

Establish appropriate end-user database access control levels.

Develop routines for end users to facilitate best practices database use.

Manage and/or provide guidance to junior members of the team.

This role will regularly work with various senior leaders, Architects, Engineering leads, Product Owners, Product Managers, SMEs, stakeholders, and executive sponsors.

Will require some experience/expertise with consultation, organizational change management and exceptional communication skills to ensure/support the delivery and mature and evolve processes, tools, and operating models.

Skills & Qualifications:

Bachelors degree in Computer Science or MIS with 4+ years experience, and/or 8+ years equivalent work or military experience.

Certifications in Microsoft development technologies (.Net, Azure Cloud certifications such as Azure Data Platform, Databricks, Azure DevOps) are a plus.

Experience in power generation, renewable energy, or retail electricity business in deregulated markets within North America is preferred.

Strong understanding of database structures, theories, principles, and practices.

Working technical experience with designing, building, installing, configuring and supporting database servers, warehouses, lakes and/or consolidations.

Project management experience is preferred.

Good understanding of the organizations goals and objectives.

Knowledge of applicable data privacy practices and laws.

Exceptional analytical, conceptual, and problem-solving abilities.

Strong written and oral communication skills.
