Position

The Senior Analyst, Research & Industry Strategy (R&IS) is a key member of the team researching, synthesizing, developing, and disseminating insights to our membership and other thought leaders and stakeholders throughout the electric power industry. This position provides an opportunity to develop deeper subject matter expertise related to SEPAs key areas of focus.

The salary range for this position is $65,000-$75,000 with the target range being around $70,000 based on experience.

Requirements:

Research and Analysis

  • Lead data collection and analysis efforts within SEPAs Research & Industry Strategy Team, including:
    • Define research methods for the design, collection, management, and analysis of data
    • Perform data analysis for the organization
    • Author and co-author written reports and summaries of findings
    • Provide data visualization recommendations for presentations, conference sessions, member meetings, workshops, the website, educational events, and other content.
  • Cross-train with team members on various research topics including electric power system decarbonization strategies, emerging technologies, virtual power plants, etc.
    • Author and support research content including reports, case studies, surveys, white papers, briefings, and other written and online materials
    • Lead research responses to technical inquiries from internal staff and external stakeholders, including media, the general public, utility, and industry members
  • Responsible for providing analysis, research, and relevant findings on research and development activities across SEPA focus areas. Responsibilities may include:
    • Identifying technology gaps, case studies, and best practices for the energy sector
    • Capturing and analyzing trends related to new utility business models, grid integration challenges, or similar topics related to SEPAs focus areas

Project Management and Support

  • Project management of projects and/or tasks as assigned by SEPA staff.
  • Keep assigned research projects on schedule and help manage the development process.
  • Ensure accuracy and high quality of data and writing represented in research output.

Industry Engagement

  • Provide input and/or support on assigned content, including support for presentations, conference sessions for SEPA events, presenting at external conferences, responding to media inquiries, and supporting advisory work.
  • Present research findings at SEPA conferences and external events.
  • Convert research content into various formats based on the target audience and delivery channel. This may include webinars, podcasts, SEPA conference sessions, blogs, infographics, slide decks, industry articles, or other formats as requested.
  • Work with SEPAs marketing and communications teams to publicize research externally through social media channels.
  • Engage with industry stakeholders on diverse topics to enhance my expertise and SEPA’s network, fostering opportunities for future collaboration.

Business Development

  • Collect and develop market intelligence to support emerging tech business development.
  • Support the emerging tech teams business development capture process.
  • Support and contribute to the development of proposals, scope(s) of work, and other business development documents as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Two years experience in a position requiring primary data collection, research, and analysis preferred.
  • Knowledge or interest in electric utility, energy, and renewable energy preferred. Specific background in decarbonization, solar, energy storage, and other renewable energy issues is a plus.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills, with the ability to translate technical information for a broader audience.
  • Strong data analysis and visualization skills (including both quantitative and qualitative analysis).
  • Professional experience or an undergraduate degree in energy disciplines such as data science, energy policy, engineering, chemical or physical sciences, economics, statistics, mathematics, or a related analytical field.
