Responsibilities

The Sales Engineer reports to the Senior Sales Engineering Manager. This role is expected to serve as the technical expert for developing cost estimates, preliminary designs, and system architecture. The Sales Engineering team is a subset of the Project Delivery team. A key enabler of Mainspring’s mission is the ability of this team to deliver solutions based on our linear generator technology that solve customer problems in the cross-section of resiliency and clean power supply.

As a Sales Engineer, You Will

  • Deliver the highest value solution to customers optimizing cost-effective and robust design solutions
  • Assist sales team in customer calls, on an as need basis, be a key contributor for customer interactions during sales cycle
  • Travel to customer sites to perform site walks to determine site conditions and challenges for estimation and installation
  • Collaborate with internal technical teams to create proposal documentation package (site/equipment layout diagrams, sales and estimating single line diagrams, etc.), thereby supporting the sales cycle
  • Interface with internal cross-functional teams to understand and communicate technical requirements to customer
  • Present turn keys project solutions with pricing estimates assumptions and exclusions
  • Pivot and problem solve and identify solutions based on the customer requirements
  • Deliver cost estimates and supporting documentation for multiple projects (5+) at a time, to project stakeholders
  • Support the business development team during contract negotiations
  • Be available as a consult for the project management during execution and installation

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Electrical or Mechanical preferred)
  • Over 2 years of experience with sales engineering, front-end engineering and design (FEED), applications engineering, cost estimating, in electrical power systems or related industry
  • Experience in distributed energy, solar, batteries, fuel cells, microgrids, a plus
  • Ability to problem-solve, think creatively, and timely resolve personnel and project related issues
  • Excellent organization, documentation, and communication skills
  • Demonstrated experience with and full understanding of the following:
  • System and component level solutions
  • Proposal development
  • EPC construction practices
  • Bill of materials
  • Electrical interconnection process/gas upgrade process with utilities
  • Cost Eestimating
  • Ability to travel nationally 25% max and be the face of Mainspring for site visits and sales presentations.
  • The Bay Area salary for this role is $115k-$135k base + pre-IPO stock options + benefits. This position is remote so the salary will be adjusted to reflect local market conditions based on employee location as well as the experience of the employee.

New hires joining the company tend to be paid within the starting base pay range noted above, with opportunities to increase pay over time based on development of additional skills, competencies, and company-specific knowledge.
